NV_1980 on Kaalia of the Waifu

Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a Kaalia deck quite like this one.

Some general notes: The deck could really do with some additional mana-sources aside from your lands to make it a bit quicker. I tried to play-test it ten times or so and each time, I couldn't do anything meaningful until turn 3 or 4 at the earliest. Stuff like the signets (Arcane Signet, Boros Signet, Orzhov Signet, Rakdos Signet and/or maybe the talismans (Talisman of Conviction, Talisman of Hierarchy, Talisman of Indulgence could all be of tremendous value in this regard.

Then there's draw. Right now the deck contains maybe 1 or 2 actual draw resources. You also have 5 or 6 tutors; most of which I presume are meant to find you your combo pieces. I see you have blink options in here too, which allows you to reuse some of your tutors, which is nice. However, most EDH decks contain at least 10 or so card-advantage options to keep things moving along steadily during games. For this deck, I'd recommend CA-options like Bloodgift Demon, Dark Confidant, Harvester of Souls, Phyrexian Arena and/or Rakdos, Patron of Chaos. I can think of more, but these are quite expensive (money-wise) and considering the deck's current budget, those might not be suitable.

Hope this brew works for you, good luck!

Czarnian90 on Hellegion, Shadows and Flames (Raphael)

After several more battles, things have begun to shift within the Hellegion. While the Balrog couldn’t even be bothered to wake, another giant is slowly taking the stage. Rakdos’s power and strength are rising, and so is his influence within the Hellegion. It’s becoming very likely that he’ll soon demand the position of commander.

Several black demons have stepped back, leaving Hellegion in search of their own designs. Who knows if they’ll return or reappear in another deck. I’ve heard whispers about Liliana — she would probably welcome some of them.

Feaster of Fools, Goremand, Arbiter of Woe, Dreadhound, Archfiend of Spite, and Embodiment of Agonies have departed. Perforating Artist no longer amuses Rakdos with his petty tricks, and the skeletons have turned to dust.

Rakdos’s growing presence is felt in cards like Rakdos, the Showstopper and Rakdos Joins Up. Juri, Master of the Revue joins to us, and there's now more spotlight for Judith through Judith, Carnage Connoisseur.

Belzenlok’s influence deepens with Rite of Belzenlok, and someone powerful has joined the Hellegion — Ardyn, the Usurper. Though his price is high and he leans heavily into black, I decided to accept his services.

But other beings circle the fire, waiting for their moment.

As Rakdos’s power swells, cards like Rakdos, Patron of Chaos and the guild’s signature mana rocks — Rakdos Cluestone, Rakdos Keyrune, Rakdos Locket — are seeing more attention to support the shift toward a stronger Rakdos color identity.

Infernal Grasp is another devilish trick straight from the pit.

The paths ahead are unclear. Dark beings still linger at the edge, ready to offer their power to the Hellegion — for a price: Skirsdag High Priest, Doom Whisperer, Overseer of the Damned, Spawn of Mayhem, and others...

I also cracked a Mount Doom recently and added it to the deck. I think it fits quite well here.

Hey XinZhao, after a long break I’m back with updates, what do you think? I added Drana and Linvala, Bloodletter of Aclazotz, Rakdos, Patron of Chaos, Aven Interrupter, Insatiable Avarice, and High Noon. Also considering Doorkeeper Thrull.

DemonDragonJ on Are Free Spells Becoming Too …

wallisface, I am lamenting that because I fear that this may be a new trend: first, there was Sheoldred  Flip, then, there was Rakdos, Patron of Chaos, and, now, there is this flare cycle, so I am worried that all sacrifice effects in the future, either voluntary or involuntary, may specify non-token permanents, which completely invalidates the purpose of token decks to produce disposable cannon fodder; Demand Answers gives me hope that the previous cards are rare exceptions, but I noticed that it specifies sacrificing an artifact, not a creature, and, until recently, it was far easier to generate creature tokens than artifact tokens, and also easier to reanimate creatures than artifacts, but we have already discussed this issue, so there is no need to discuss it, any further.

MightyPox, I did indeed miss your initial comment somehow! I was traveling and replied on mobile, so I blame the small screen. I also really love my demons and it hurts to take any out, so I'm constantly shifting the mix between demons and enablers depending on what I feel is strongest at the moment. We just got some AWESOME new demons though, so I'm tweaking the list towards the creature side again.

Bloodletter of Aclazotz and Rakdos, Patron of Chaos absolutely need to be in the deck. Infernal Sovereign is tricky, and I'm still on the fence, but I'm going to try it out and see. It can fuel some absolutely insane turns, adds bonus value to our cheap spells like rituals and loots, but it's a real feels bad to have if trying to use Sire Of Insanity. High risk high reward, which I want to love.

Bringer of the Last Gift and Scourge of the Skyclaves are both reanimation nonbos, so I don't like them for that reason. I hate paying full cost for my demons since I've worked in so much synergy with cheating creatures. If you like them, run them! They are fun demons for sure. :)

The Balrog of Moria keeps popping in and out of my list, and he's so close to worth it. We'll see if the heavier creature focus I'm shifting back towards gets him a spot.

I have replaced Flameblade Angel with Rakdos, Patron of Chaos, since Rakdos better fits the theme of this deck.

DemonDragonJ on Why Do Recent Sacrifice Effects …

I have noticed that some recent effects that force players to sacrifice permanents, such as Sheoldred  Flip or Rakdos, Patron of Chaos specifically mention non-token permanents, which bothers me very much, because one of the main reasons for which some players like to play decks that generate large numbers of tokens is to have an army of disposable cannon fodder that they can expend without suffering any real losses.

Thus, I really hope that the "non-token" clause on forced sacrifice effects is used only on rare occasion, and that the default for such effects will remain all permanents, token or non-token.

What does everyone else say about this? Why do recent sacrifice effects specify non-token permanents?
