scotchtapedsleeves Haha, sorry if I bugged you, but I'm glad I convinced you! From the times I've played this deck, it runs pretty well. Not competitive, but it ramps out easily and can get a lot onto the field quickly. Plus, not a lot of people I play with see Emiel the Blessed and hear the warning bells go off. Katilda, Dawnhart Prime performed well, but more importantly it was fun to play :).

I originally built this deck as a lower power deck to have around just in case, but then I never really encountered a chance to play it, so I gave it a big tune up, but still didn't want it to be too powerful. Cards like Cathar Commando can basically be 3 mana for a Naturalize, which definitely isn't a fast or optimal method for removal, but creature based removal works well when you've got cards like Kyler, Sigardian Emissary or Cathars' Crusade that care about creatures/Humans ETBing. I could probably afford to cut a few creatures in favor of more noncreature removal, but until I've played with it for a while, I won't know what's worth keeping/cutting

In:

Sakura-Tribe Elder, Tireless Provisioner, Shanna, Sisay's Legacy, Yasharn, Implacable Earth, Abundant Harvest, Gilded Goose, Lotus Cobra, Scale Up.

Out:

Jiang Yanggu, Wildcrafter, Armorcraft Judge, Resplendent Marshal, Kyler, Sigardian Emissary, Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider, Enduring Scalelord, Hamza, Guardian of Arashin, Sigarda's Summons.

The +1/+1 counter theme mixed with the token theme looks good on paper but I think it's bad in practice. Although I haven't played this against people yet, doing shuffle and hand tests felt clunky and some cards wouldn't have much value when it came time to play them. So I took much of the +1/+1 counter theme out and replaced it with ramp (or cards that draw me lands) and a few threatening cards that are just cheaper but possibly better.

Honestly I would look into cutting the "counters matter" strategy out of the deck, generally in EDH you're seeing board wipes vs single creature targeting unless it's a specific target for a specific reason but even then I feel like it's better suited for a deck that wants to synergize 100% with the +1/+1 counters theme like Kyler, Sigardian Emissary or Skullbriar, the Walking Grave you would probably synergize more with straight buffs with anthems vs things like the ozolith and such, I know it's easy to fall into the "well what if i have XXX out and then XXX happens" but if your deck is relying too much on "what If" then it's not running efficiently you want synergy with multiple things so either stick to "counters matter" or stick with anthems then your deck will run the same everytime because you have multiple things doing the same thing vs doing some of this here and some of that there but not working together 100%, the mechanic is just too clunky though IMO but if you like it then you like it however there are better options should you choose to go that route which could bring about more cuts.

I would also take out Tome of Legends for a Vanquisher's Banner it gives WAY more card draw and the bonus buff for a tribal deck vs having to pay 1 for one card every rotation.

As for the land Guildless Commons seems a bit of a waste i dont particularly like bounce lands too much in a mono color deck, they're great for 3+ color but why stifle yourself a turn on mana when you could just play a basic or a utility land with a better effect...in the end it's just a worst sol ring IMO

DareiJuxis Thanks you for your recommendations.

A few cards were just for the flavor for me and in the end they won several games like Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Along with counters for Kyler, Nils, Discipline Enforcer is a good defense against a friend's Hamza, Guardian of Arashin. And The First Iroan Games was not pulled at this point since i took the card on the Deck.

I will definitely test Reverent Hoplite instead of Increasing Devotion.

I personally think Wild Beastmaster is too slow. the card puts the archenemy in my face without really doing anything in the turn. maybe with Concordant Crossroads when the secret lair is published.

I just don't like Thalia's Lieutenant. I'm also not a fan of the fact that 95% of Kyler, Sigardian Emissary decks just look and play the same. That's why I don't take some cards in for personal reasons as well as for playful reasons.

I'm also at the point in the deck where it's incredibly difficult for me to part with individual cards because they've either done a good job or I like the flavor so much. If you have any suggestions for Eternal Witness or Hopeful Initiate, I'll be happy to take note of them and think about them.

These are my recommended cuts-

Ajani Unyielding, Elite Scaleguard, Elite Scaleguard, Herald of War, Kyler, Sigardian Emissary, Sigarda, Heron's Grace, and Heron's Grace Champion.

Look for cards that cost 3 CMC or less to add. Good-Fortune Unicorn like KBK7101 said is solid. If you can get your average CMC to about 3 you should find the deck generally runs pretty quick. Try to keep the strategy synergistic and short too. You want creatures with +1/+1 counters so things that enter that way will be strongest for you.

Getting Pumped Up

Commander / EDH Monomanamaniac

SCORE: 1 | 6 VIEWS

So I just recently started brewing with one of my favorite new commanders Kyler, Sigardian Emissary and I think I'm starting to hone in on what the deck really wants to do. It's an aggro deck that generates tokens and +1/+1 counters.

I'm looking for suggestions for cards to cut and to add.

Undead Unleashed has lots of great synergy, a handful of great reprints and has really good value all around. Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver is one of the best zombie commanders ever printed. The back-up commander, Eloise, Nephalia Sleuth is cool but requires a much different approach. The reprint commander, Gisa and Geralf is a much better "back-up commander" in this sense as they're more synergistic with the zombie theme.

Coven Counters is a bit clunky, from my experience. Like, all the pieces work together really well in theory, but it doesn't seem to work quite as well in game. The back-up commander for this deck, Kyler, Sigardian Emissary is incredible and is easily the best commander in this deck. He is a bit of a removal magnet, though, and would need a lot more protection if you decide to build around him.

Vampiric Bloodline is a bit similar to the zombie one. Some great reprints, good all around value and lots of synergy but I haven't actually played games with the VOW ones, sadly. The VOW decks also replace the back-up commander with a pair of partners, which is cool.

Spirit Squadron is a bit more complicated than the other ones. It runs pretty well, it's just that the deck has a lot more going on than the others. Like, the vampire one, the back-up commander is a pair of partners, which I love. Partner is a really cool mechanic. Again, haven't played games with these last two.

Overall? I'd probably recommend the one as the best all-around deck, being second, and and coming in after that.

For a new player, I'd recommend looking at the commanders that each deck has and picking out whichever deck has commanders/themes that interest you the most. Big zombie fan? Grab the zombie one. Love vampires? Get the vampire one. You'll be much more interested in the decks if the decks interest you, know what I mean?

Hope this helps!

SaberTech I won a match with this deck in my playgroup last night. I've been keeping the decklist fully updated, so even though I'm still waiting on some cards from TCGPlayer, the way it is right now is how I ran it.

Here's what I found:

I used Sigarda, Heron's Grace graveyard exiling / token creating ability a lot more than I have in the past. With Kyler, Sigardian Emissary on the field, I was swinging with some HUGE timmy creatures! They all had hexproof too, which was game changing. I managed to draw into Swiftfoot Boots, so all the creatures on my board had hexproof. I finished by taking out one player with Overwhelming Stampede with Adeline, Resplendent Cathar in play, and he was the most problematic player for my deck, so once he was gone I had to build my boardstate a little bit, and two turns later swung at the remaining two players with Triumph of the Hordes and won with infect damage. (I know some people have mixed feelings about infect, but it's accepted in my playgroup, especially when it's used as a finisher.) Pretty wild.

Oh, one more thing happened that I thought was interesting: Early game, I was getting mana screwed, so I had to cast Eternal Witness to bring an Evolving Wilds back from the graveyard lol. I think that's the first time I've had to do that. Thankfully, I started drawing into some lands after that.
