I'm so tired of all the life gain in standard, I'm playing 2 of Erebos, God of the Dead in place of 2 Tormented Hero because everything about Erebos is great (prevents life gain, draw power, and potentially a huge dude), and the Hero is a fail when it comes to the whip and the marauder. Also, I have 34 permanents so 5 devotion is completely reasonable.
Grand opening
chuck0715, 11 years ago
So last week 6-7-14 my friend needed a standard deck to use for a shops grand opening in a town near by. So he had never played hexproof and I practiced three games with him told what to sideboard for mainly against control. He ended going to the tournament and out of 27 people placed 3rd. He faced 3 control decks and lost to one cause he miss played. He ended up though 4-1 on the night. I can't wait to get the chance to play this deck in a tournament since I have updated it.

with my Immortal Servitudes and third Athreos, God of Passage finally arriving in the mail, I put this baby to the test and had good luck with it. started 2-0 against golgari midrange (L,W,W) and American Control (L,W,W) getting out athreos and the necromancer almost every game. the best was game 3 against control he had one card in hand turned out to not be a counter and i landed a 3x servitude and brought back 8 creatures including a necromancer. my two losses were both against decks that run my biggest obstacle Blood Baron of Vizkopa DEGA (b/w/r) control and my best friend's junk (b/g/w) midrange, it was sad we ended up playing in the final round so one of us had to knock the other out of the finals. but I'm happy with how the deck played, I just have to learn how to play it better, and learn how to deal with blood baron.

Had a great night of magic. My meta is HUGE on junk constellation, bug control and g/w beats(one guy plays almost an exact copy of my own g/w deck Chinese kitty kitchen(2x 4-0 champ). So I decided instead of my established g/w deck I'd play this dark horse deck. Since apparently people don't play gruul monsters anymore it was ripe for akroan linebreaker to destroy everything. And he did.
Round 1: played the g/w clone. I drew 4 red mana and kept, then turn 4 akroan linebreaker hit for 17 with Madcap Skills and 2 Titan's Strength. It was easy from there. Game 2 was the same story only Fabled Hero was the one laying the hurt.
Round 2: BUG control. It seemed like he just tried to put the Jace and Vraska duel decks together with Desecration Demon as the win con. Vraska was annoying an he stole game 2 but he had to chump early game 3. Won 2-1
Round 3: played a junk deck that was almost mbd(it was mono black last time I played him). Game 1 was a duel between Fabled Hero and Master of the Feast. I stuck away bc I got my Chained to the Rocks last second. Game 2 I mulliganed down to 4 and still didn't see any lands. He made quick work of me with a perfect curve and I didn't see a land the whole game. Game 3 I got Prophetic Flamespeaker rolling early and forced him to play defense. Won the attrition war 2-1
Round 4: played another g/w aggro with all sorts of value beats. Game 1 he dropped 2 Fleecemane Lion and 2 Voice of Resurgence on the same turn when I was sitting on Baltic with crap. Game 2 was another linebreaker special hitting for lots fast. Game 3 I topdecked Glare of Heresy to answer his Archangel of Thune and got 2 Chained to the Rocks before the lions got monstrous.
Finished 4-0, pulled crap cards but got some cash out of it. 8-3 on the night in games, not too shabby for not playing this deck much lately. I also traded for 4 Sacred Foundry after the games were all done which I think is even more telling about the deck. It just plays well. The 4 lands I got for the deck cost more than the rest of it combined. True story

Should be pretty much done now. Just seeing what you all think of it now and if any one thinks if something is better.
Looking at the options......

So I've swapped out even more things since earlier this afternoon, trying to adjust my mana as I change one or two cards around. My previous changes were the following: -3 Voyaging Satyrs --> + 3 Judge's Familiars -1 Courser of Kruphix --> +1 Selesnya Charm -1 Sacred Foundry --> +1 Temple of Triumph -1 Temple of Abandon --> +1 Temple of Triumph The mana will continue to change (of that I am certain); but I took our a Foundry for a Triumph for more scry power, as well as taking out the Abandon for a Triumph since my White mana count increased (with the addition of Judge's Familiar). Now I've messed with the sideboard, adding Assemble the Legion instead of a potential third Elspeth, Sun's Champion, simply because WHY NOT?! It's a one-of, and the CMC is high (just like Elspeth); but if that card resolves on the field, then the clock starts ticking furiously. I've also added a Maybeboard. Some of these may be decent swap-outs for Judge's Familiar or Keening Apparition, but I won't know until I've tested them. I'm on the lookout for creatures that will help me in a WIDE variety of situations, especially considering the fact that I can buff them later with Ajani, Mentor of Heroes. I really dig Fleecemane Lion, but worry about the mana cost being strictly green and white (this doesn't give much wiggle room). Dryad Militant makes it difficult for Blue/White to pop an Elixir and get much back since all instants and sorceries are exiled instead of going to the graveyard; but it's easily dealt with by Detention Sphere or board wipes. Nyx-Fleece Ram is a nice fat butt that gains life every turn regardless, and it's a great card to buff later in the game; but with all of the enchantment removal out there, I'm just not sure it would stay on the field long enough to be worth playing. And finally, the fourth creature that really piques my interest (and has for the longest time, seeing as I <3 Dredge decks) is Scavenging Ooze. It's a bear with the ability to, not only exile cards from ANY graveyard (lol Azorius/Esper players), but it also gets FATTER while gaining you LIFE! All for the low-low price of one Forest! This guy may be a keeper.

Just playing

Sideboard change
WomboCombo, 11 years ago
Made a minor change to the sideboard.
I felt like there wasn't any match-up where I would actually side Medomai the Ageless other than to be a troll. So I've replaced him with Jace, Memory Adept aka 'Mill Jace' so that I have another win con vs other control decks.

Record: 4-2-1 (8th Place) I got the cut to top eight in this case. This deck continues to perform well. I managed to tag out a mono-Black devotion deck and beat the Naya midrange and Green devotion lists that have been circulating around. I got beaten out by Blue Devotion (as I can't compete with their evasion creatures) and a similar Green devotion build. Still, I can't really complain. This will be my go-to standard deck until rotation for sure.

Match1
DJDEEZNUTZ, 11 years ago
Trying this at FNM this week. Edit 1- 5-0 at FNM: match 1- Jund: his turn 1: stomping grounds, elvish mystic. my turn 1: temple of silence, kept the top card. his turn 2: overgrown tomb, domri rade +1, miss. my turn 2: temple of plenty (that I kept on top : ) ) his turns 3-8: he misses with domri every turn, just plays a land and passes. his turn 9: I stand up and shoot him with my m1911 Colt, the judge gives me a red slip : (
Possible Additions?
BoromirOfGondor, 11 years ago
I am considering adding a singleton Mana Confluence to avoid awkward junctures in which I am unable to cast Detention Sphere or Supreme Verdict. I am also testing with Ultimate Price and possibly a maindeck Blood Baron of Vizkopa. Any thoughts?

Its a sad day, Athreos just didn't work in this deck so......I had to drop him. Despite this I will keep him as the featured card since he is awesome and is the center of my great deck description.
