After a royal fail at FNM this week, swapped Somberwald Sage out for Dawntreader Elk, found myself stuck with multiples and no creatures to cast with them when I needed some aggro. Hopefully this will sort the deck out somewhat

Took this deck to Thursday magic. 3 rounds, faced 2 bant control decks and a angel of glory rites. Went 2-0 rites deck, 2-0 bant, 0-1 bant (my fault though, forgot to sideboard out before match, had him to 1 life even without all of my major win cons). I am loving this deck, has answers to everything. Cards that are questionable right now are: izzet charm and syncopate. Both haven't helped me much, more so for syncopate. Might put another dissipate /or counterflux. I'll try to keep this deck up to date.

I played at a standard tournament Wednesday and these are the results.
Round 1: BG aggro
First game I had to mulligan to 5.. bad start, He quickly played Dreg Mangler and Knight of Infamy. I played Intangible Virtue and Gather the Townsfolk. He kept swinging for 3 until I could regain board control. I tragic slipped his knight and double blocked his Dreg Mangler, but he destroyed Intangible Virtue with a Golgari Charm and killed my humans. Game was very close. Life:2 - 0---- Second game I quickly won with tokens and a switch to Silverblade Paladin and Falkenrath Aristocrat.---- Game 3 ended quite long. I don't quite remember how it played out, but I lost relatively badly because of his Dreg Manglers. He played an Increasing Savagery on one of them and I couldn't kill it.
Round 2: BG graveyard Easy 2 wins. This deck was poorly made. He had Boneyard Wurms and Splinterfright, and well as ghoul tree which was easy enough to block with tokens. I made quick work of his deck.
Round 3: Pillow Wall
By far the weirdest deck I have seen. Game 1 he kept Oblivion Ringing and Detention Sphereing my creatures. He then played Curse of Death's Hold and played 2 Sphere of Safetys. keeping me from doing anything. ---- Game 2 I quickly played tokens and buffed them. Silverblade Paladin with Falkenrath Aristocrat to make a quick win.---- Game 3 he played the same game as 1, but I oblivion ringed 2 of his oblivion rings. He then detention sphered mine and made quick work as he put down 2 more Sphere of Safetys and I conceded. ---- His win strategy was Nephalia Drownyard to mill you out.
Round 4: Game 1 he mulliganned down to 4 and I quickly sped ahead to kill him. ---- Game 2 he played Avacyn's Pilgrim to a turn 2 Arbor Elf and Farseek to a turn 4 Angel of Serenity. He quickly made work of my deck.---- Game 3 I Pillar of Flamed his ramp and quickly Silverblade Paladin and Hellrider for 12 damage turn 4. He had no rebuttal and conceded.----
There it is 2-2. Fun tournament, but I didn't get to test on any America control or Naya midgame.

My playgroup now uses only the official banlist, whitch makes it now possible to do masive land destruction and very mean combos (we agreed on not playing such stuff before). So I will try to include some of this win cons into this deck

Made a few changes, cutting down to 2 Thundermaw and upping to 2 Sigarda. The Sideboard got +2 Silklash Spider and -1 Bonfire, -1 Sigarda. More testing is required, but I like the changes. I rarely needed all 4 Bonfire, even against Aggro, where I've got plenty of substitutions.
Land ramp added

Couldn't keep the Keeper
impo, 12 years ago
2nd edit of today -
Finally pulled Bloodline Keeper Flip, he just wasn't pulling his weight anymore. Replaced him, and one of my new copies of Arrest with 3 copies of Lingering Souls against the early rush of aggro. Late game they'll still have some ability to stall the board with Vault of the Archangel I hope. Also tweaked the manabase slightly to compensate for the changes.

Arrested over a Stab Wound
impo, 12 years ago
Replaced all 4 copies of Stab Wound with Arrest to lock down problem creatures. Stab Wound was working more as removal anyways, but in the event it stuck around it was just leaving them a blocker / sacrifice target.

Gatecrash — RETURN TO RAVNICA 2/3
Gods under stones and roots have blessed Thelon with two new visions of bubbling horror!
- Experiment One - A bit small and weak but we all have our human side.
- Miming Slime - Cheap cost for potentially humongous pile of goo.

potential gatecrash updates
soothslyr, 12 years ago
here are the changes that i'm looking at once gatecrash hits:
-2 Elvish Visionary -1 Mayor of Avabruck Flip +3 burning tree emmisary
+3 dromri rade -3 garruk, the restless
+3 call of defiance -3 Bonfire of the Damned
+3 Stomping Ground -1 Mountain -2 Forest
the mana base is a bit tricky, but it should be stable once gatecrash hits.
i'm torn on the call of defiance vs Bonfire of the Damned. bonfire is great to topdeck, but CoD is better early to midgame.
i'm currently happy with how domri rade can be used as a pseudo draw engine and an Ulvenwald Tracker all in one. card advantage is never a bad thing
i'm liking how burning tree emissary can essentially be cast for free on t2 along with a Mayor of Avabruck Flip. probably the weakest of the additions. will have to test to see how they fit in together.

GW for the 3rd time. Hoping to win some prizes this time. I know this isn't an upper tier deck format, but I feel like it can compete. I feel like I have some good answers, but we'll see what happens.Balefire, 12 years ago
Replaced goblin electromancer with Guttersnipe, lowered amount of increasing vengeance and added in artful dodge to get Nivmagus past blockers/eat the flashbacked one for 2 counters

Gatecrash Spoilers & the Future of this List
topshelf7710, 12 years ago
Holy cow, Gatecrash is delivering with the spoilers. I'm feeling the nudge to break this deck away from mono-black and use blue in it to take advantage of Lazav and Consuming Aberration. I want to keep some of the discard, both thematically and since it synergizes with my prospective new general. Also, Crypt Ghast is too crazy not to use in here as well. I am definitely up for thoughts and input as I consider the future of this list. Thanks for looking!

Tweaked my deck quite a bit and deleted all my outdated posts. Moved the old comments (that are no longer relevant) to the "Update" section, at least that's what it says on the "Reset Discussion" tab.
