Garruk's Companion

Creature — Beast

Trample (If this creature would assign enough damage to its blockers to destroy them, you may have it assign the rest of its damage to defending player or planeswalker.)

cosmcbun Yeah, that's a nice addition! Pauper stompy exists, although there aren't quite enough strong Aspect of the Hydra enablers to play a devotion build. I suppose it could play Garruk's Companion, but I doubt its worth it.

This reminds me of a deck I had for a long time. It focused on using as many Green Mana Pips as possible. It had a handful of mana dorks like Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise, and/or Elvish Mystic to help ramp late-game win cons. The early threats included cards like Avatar of the Resolute, Predator Ooze, Leatherback Baloth, Strangleroot Geist, Garruk's Companion, and Steel Leaf Champion. Later in the game, I would use Primalcrux, Khalni Hydra, Aspect of Hydra, and Overwhelming Stampede to close out games. It was a lot of fun and made some huge attacks!

Idk much about pauper but have you considered adding some removal in the form of Lightning Bolt? Swapping some of your looting effects for bolts seems ideal.

I understand you want to fill your GY but faithless looting is virtual card disadvantage. You get your choice of cards but it doesn't replace itself like thrill of possibility. Flashback is nice, but without any actual card advantage, it's likely that you will run out of gas fairly quickly. Idk any actual card advantage in green thats a common.

Sideboard Card?: Ancient Grudge

Invasive Species - Seems like its only good with springbloom. I dont feel invasive species is a right fit for your build given your lack of ETB creatures. Have you considered swapping it with any of the following....

Rancor - Repeatable pump is nice

Basking Rootwalla - Madness is synergy and it can be pumped

Elvish Visionary - Only draw I know in green pauper. I think running 2-4 of these could be helpful. You really do need draw, badly.

Garruk's Companion - 3/2 trample for seems pretty good. Paired with Rancor or the muscle bursts, it can put in some serious work. Casting cost is slightly hard, but could be worth it IMO.

Mire Boa - Aside from sac, exile and -X/-X effects, it will be hard to get rip of this snake. Hiss at your opponents when you attack with it for extra fun

Overall its a solid build. +1. Be sure to lmk what you think of each suggestion.

Between the Krosan Warchief and Rhonas's Monument, you have enough ways to reduce cost that the amulet that is a bit of overkill. Garruk's Harbinger could be a pretty for adding more beast to your hand while not slowing down on aggro. Speaking of aggro, Rhythm of the Wild is pretty good. Also Kalonian Tusker is a pretty good alternative to Garruk's Companion (or extra copies). Hope this helps.

Xianling69 I think you're expecting a bit more competitive playgroup than ours. There is some fragility built into my decks intentionally so I don't annihilate everyone every time. These are long, drawn out, multiplayer games. While taking out the creatures does hamper me some, there's enough redundancy with Maelstrom Archangel, Jegantha, and Orochi, that they can't stop me for long, and have to contend with the rest of the table. They can't run enough creature removal to take out all my stuff and not let someone else get out of hand. My decks are budget, casual, and fun to play and to play against. And we have a house rule that occasional board wipes are ok, repeated board wipes are not. Kaheera will work well in the Quartzwood Crasher deck because it gives my creatures vigilance. I'm in a multiplayer environment. If I want to attack every turn, I have to be very careful about leaving myself vulnerable to crack back - because there are at least 3 others that can attack me. I'm not running a full playset of Kaheera, but I have it in the side as companion and one in the main deck for now, although the maindeck one may get dropped. I'm considering Garruk's Uprising in the deck, too, maybe as a 1 or 2 of. It would help with Keeper of Fables for card draw, although I've got a couple of copies of Garruk's Companion, so in flux on that part of the package. It's still a work in progress for sure, and may change quite a bit before it's finished. I probably need to come up with some form of lifegain and artifact/enchantment removal, and still finalizing the ramp package. We have a bit of Torpor Orb and similar effects running around our meta right now, so I try to avoid depending on too many enter the battlefield effects.

Crossbow Ambush for Geralt's crossbow.

Silverglade Elemental and Boneyard Lurker remind me a bit of a Leshen.

Ridgescale Tusker and Prowling Pangolin are like a Shaelmaar.

Giant Warthog is a... well a boar.

Ravenous Chupacabra reminds me a lot of the rabid, mangey dogs you find across Velen.

Screeching Harpy is pretty self-explanatory. There are lots of others, but the art on this one is pretty on-point with the Witcher.

Chorts and Fiends kind of look like Baloths and those kinds of beasts in Magic. Nessian Demolok is particularly close, but there's also Baloth Woodcrasher, Blastoderm and Garruk's Companion, among many others.

Werewolves... Take your pick. However very few werewolves in Magic depict them quite like they are in Witcher. They're so gross, painful and deformed in that game, so maybe you can choose some based on that.

Hmm, yea I originally had GG as the third spell, as that was the very first thing that popped into my mind upon realizing the deck ports near completely over. I guess we'll have to see exactly what become the top decks to say if trample is actually that necessary.

If it is, I could always also consider Garruk's Companion over some 2+ drops instead of replacing GG. I've seen several successful lists playing the Companion in modern (most in Japan...), and they actually used GG over Vines, haha (they were THAT all-in and low-cmc).

Thanks for your input. And, yeah, I've got Manglehorn in the board as a 1-of already but originally had 2. Board is still un-tested as well.
