Hexapod on Standing Stones | Archelos, Lagoon Mystic

Thank you Craeter for your comment!

I wish Verity Circle was worded differently, but unfortunately as you guessed it would do nothing here.

One of my goals is to make this deck casual and fun, so I ruled out Opposition as a heinous card. Archelos can be salty enough by himself; I will tap him for mana through cards like Citanul Hierophants or Cryptolith Rite at the end of my turn.

I aim to get value out of my lands coming into play untapped, and exploiting things like Thawing Glaciers to get triggers and ramp. I have various possible wincons, one of them being to turn lands into creatures and attack, although I think I need to make room for Earth Surge for this to be a viable option.

I can also win with mill using Phenax, God of Deception. This works fast with Murkfiend Liege on the board.

Then there are the obvious ones, Rampaging Baloths and Avenger of Zendikar

Conduit of Worlds is a good idea, I am not sure I was aware of that card, thank you. I don't think Druid Class and Lifegift make the cut.

Glad you liked the story!

Flarhoon13 on Nagao, the Uncommon Commander of Seven Samurai

May 3, 2024 I started a new quest. Having built 52 decks, I endeavoured to play them all, in roughly the same order as I created them.

Nagao, the Uncommon Commander of Seven Samurai win* Not a legitimate win. Got shut down from Jon Irenicus, Shattered One's gifted Evil Eye of Urborg, then killed Jesse via milling out Dave. Jesse used Modify Memory to gift me Will's commander, Phenax, God of Deception, while Dave had been given Will's Syr Konrad, the Grim. I milled out Dave and the Konrad damage killed Jesse. Will, tired, just said he didn't know his life total on his fishing rod life counter and conceded 12-11. .522

May 31

Erebos' Totally Devoted to Death loss 8-11 Misplayed, had an out vs. Phenax, God of Deception and a Rogue's Passaged Guiltfeeder but I, honestly against my instincts, tapped out greedily for an Abhorrent Overlord in my pre-combat main phase before attacking my Corpse Augur into its death:  lost 9 life but drew Sudden Spoiling and 8 other cards. If I would have waited to play spells post combat, I could have had another turn and quite possibly recovered enough to win the game, but alas... .421 Then again, maybe if I wasn't tapped out, my opponent wouldn't have blocked and killed my attacking Corpse Augur.

I have replaced Psychic Drain and Twisted Justice with Dockside Chef and Phenax, God of Deception, which reduced the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.71 to 3.68. which is very nice, since the previous cards could be used only once, each, whereas the newer cards can be used, repeatedly.

FormOverFunction, this deck does not have a great emphasis on +1/+1 counters, so Gyre Sage would not be a good match for it, and, even if that were the case, I believe that Kami of Whispered Hopes is superior to Gyre Sage in the majority of situations. Similarly, this deck does not have many, if any, zombies, so Undead Alchemist is also not a good match, for this deck.

As for Phenax, God of Deception, he is a great recommendation, so I think that I would like to wait to receive several more responses, before I make a decision, on this matter.

I was thinking about Gyre Sage, in an attempt to leverage the counters that get put on mimeo. I don’t know if that’s worth it, but I’m going to think more about those counters, because there might be something weird in black or whatever that benefits from getting counters. The other thing I was thinking about was Phenax, God of Deception, which could change the operation/play of the deck pretty significantly. You have a lot of pips in your creatures, so you’d probably have him active reliably. Phenax made me think about Undead Alchemist, which makes more mill, but that guy exiles which is the exact opposite of what you’re looking for... I’ll let you know what I think of regarding how to benefit from the +1/+1 counters (other than the normal crashing around).

Krayvyn on The Horror ... THE HORROR! *PRIMER*

I would definitely add Eater of the Dead, he's been errata'd to be a horror creature type, and synergizes with Phenax, God of Deception for a possible wincon if given the right amount of creatures in graveyards.
