My first experience with Magic was getting a starter box of Core Set 2013 to play kitchen table with someone I knew at the time. I pulled Jace, Memory Adept and thought he was neat, and thought that being able to make your opponent loose by not having cards in their deck was funny. A year or two later and I bought a single Core Set 2015 booster from Kmart and pulled Liliana Vess and also thought she was neat and synergized well with Jace. Then - as I was into YuGiOh as well at the time - I decided to check if there were any god cards and found Phenax, God of Deception, who would fit in my pile of random dimir stuff and would enable the win condition I found funny. A family member then proceeded to buy the card for me as an out-of-the-blue gift.

I then proceeded to have no one interested in Magic so I shelved it for years.

Finally, 2023 rolls around and a couple of newer friends of mine introduce me to the commander format. My thought process at the time was "cool, a format where I can take the most annoying card in my deck and make it always available to me? Sign me up!"

I have been doing my best to make Phenax work in commander ever since.

A Phenax mill deck - there are many like it but this one is mine.
