I'll admit that I initially ignored this deck because of "pestilence" in the title. It was an error, it's a nice deck, and an original turn on the boring pestilence archetype.

Here I'll list all my opinions (given the "help" flag I hope you'll be interested in them, otherwise, ignore them =D ). Obviously, these will all be my subjective opinions, while the deck is yours, so use them as you wish!

If I were you, I'd think about upping the Wall of Glare and Glyph of Doom count to 4, It could really turn into an easy board-wipe.

On the other hand, I don't really like Glyph of Life. You could probably get better lifegain, using (Children of Korlis?), or, even better, multitasking-spells with a lifegain option (Light of Hope is an example, but not the best for this kind of deck).

Similarly, I hate to say this, but I don't really think Gary fits in; you don't have that much devotion, resulting in too Little lifegain for its cmc, nor some way to flicker him, and he can't be Unearthed. I'd look for a better cmc 3 or less "damage-to-the-face" creature, don't know which, but I think there are a few that deal two, damage or leech, for 3 cmc.

Obviously I'd update Doom Blade to Cast Down as soon as you get your hands on one.

Finally, this one is more of a stretch and really an oddity of mine, but I'd absolutely like the deck more if it didn't use Guardian of the Guildpact. Cemetery Gate already kinda does the same job, and fits the deck, thematically and mechanically, better.

I apologise for any error in my english, I'm not a native speaker and the mobile text auto-corrector is not helping either. I hope you find some use in my suggestions, cheers!

There's even a Cemetery Gate, Black Carriage and Runaway Carriage. Dawn of the Dead, Eater of the Dead and a Lord of the Undead. There is a creature type called nightmare which even includes a Nightmare. There's Childhood Horror.

Hello there! You were very kind to me in your comment on my Pyrohemia deck, so I figured that I should return the favor.

As a disclaimer, though, I am about to suggest a good number of changes, so bear with me. I'm definitely not aiming to completely deconstruct and rebuild your deck.

To begin, there are some cards in here that I find superfluous. For instance, I know that Crypt Rats is appealing, fits the theme, and acts kind of like a 5th Pestilence, but it requires assistance to stay alive. It isn't as good for the deck as it might seem. I feel like you'd be better off replacing it with something to tutor out the Pestilence, like Idyllic Tutor or Enlightened Tutor.

Similarly, High Priest of Penance is a one-shot ability that you're only running one of, and really would require Shielded by Faith in order to really floop the pig, which you're also only running one of. I would cut both of them.

Next, Sanguine Bond and Night Dealings are both good synergies with Pestilence, but they're also pulling up your mana curve. You want to make sure that you have mana to pump into Pestilence as often as possible. I would keep one or the other, or maybe even cut them both.

Then there's the 3 Lifelink I get it why you'd want them, but feel like you'd be better served with something like Sun Droplet that's not dependent on creatures dealing damage. You don't need to gain a ton of life, just enough to keep your life total higher than your opponent. By that same token, I think 3x Drain Life is too many.

Next, I would update your creature base. Remember that you need to have at least one creature in play to keep the Pestilence on the battlefield, and right now you only have 11 in the deck (and I just suggested cutting 2 of them). While I'm all about White Knight and Order A Lite Beer, I think you'd benefit from replacing a lot of that with creatures with less symbols in the mana cost, like Disciple of Grace, Death Speakers and/or Apostle of Purifying Light. And/or another Cemetery Gate. And then maybe a one-of Blood Baron of Vizkopa to round it out. In total, I'd suggest having north of 15 creatures.

Additionally, I would cut Ephara's Radiance, and either bring Disenchant down to 2x or cut it entirely and instead run 2x Vindicate.

And finally, consider changing your land base to include less lands that only produce white mana (i.e. less Plains). Since it's a casual deck, you could include Tainted Field, but also Isolated Chapel. 4x of each could replace all 8 Plains. Then, I'd replace the Caves of Koilos, one of the Swamp and the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth with 4x Godless Shrine. If you made all of those changes, all of your lands would produce black mana, and 15 of them would produce white.

Again, that's a lot of changes. Please take them all as simply suggestions. I really love Pestilence decks, if you haven't noticed, haha...

Cheers!

Spell_Slam on Mono Black Pauper because why not

Pestilence decks are a known archetype in Pauper. They are most notably in Orzhov colours, which help with many aspects of the deck.

As fun as it is to win with Pestilence (one of my favourite cards!), Crypt Rats is a great addition for consistency and because it can be recurred with cards like Unearth and deals its damage in chunks, making it possible to draw the game in some scenarios.

Most pauper decks have pretty small creatures, so deploying a few x/3 is often enough to have your Pestilence survive and establish a pretty good soft-lock. Something like Cuombajj Witches goes a really long way in keeping your enchantment alive and is also excellent removal in this format. Thorn of the Black Rose is incredible on an empty board and also has the prerequisite 3 toughness.

If you want to keep it mono-black, there's also Cemetery Gate and Wall of Tanglecord that have big butts to survive damage and also block for you in the early game.

If you move into White, you have a lot more options. Kor Skyfisher, Aven Riftwatcher, Thraben Inspector, Guardian of the Guildpact, Palace Sentinels... not to mention all the pro-Black cards you gain access to and the versatile removal.

Orzhov pestilence and very nice build of it! I would certainly recommend some more creatures that survive pestilence to be added, as you need to those to be able to safely play the enchantment. I would go - 2 inheritance - 1 dimir house guard - 1 echoing decay + 2 Palace Sentinels + 2 Wall of Hope/Cemetery Gate. You can safely ditch the talismans that produce colorless mana as well for more interaction and/or creatures.

Cyclopean Mummy , Creepy Doll , Cemetery Gate , Black Carriage , Creepy Doll , Carrion Crow , Bloodline Keeper  Flip, Headstone , Night Terrors , Haunted Plate Mail , Grimoire of the Dead , Cellar Door , Witch's Familiar , Dread Reaper , Banshee , Profane Memento , Victim of Night .

I have been building and rebuilding a mono black Halloween deck for a few years. I can never decide on which cards to keep and which to cut, wether or not it needs a secondary theme (discard, zombies, etc.) to be a little competitive or just put in anything that fits best and play it for the lolz.

Kudos for making the attempt!

I was playtesting a bit with you deck and I have to agree with DominusArcanix. The Cemetery Gates don't seem to do much. I get the point, but I almost never needed them. I feel like they'd be better replaced by something that helps you get to your combo cards faster (or makes sure you're getting the mana you need). Or something that slows down your opponent. Maybe more Sun-Crowned Hunters? Maybe more Duress? Maybe something like Hymn to Tourach? I don't know.

I am not quite sure I follow the goal of Cemetery Gate. Is it just a speed bump that is Pestilence proof?
