Sac-able ramp for Muldrotha

Commander Deck Help forum

So I have been looking for some re-usable ramp to recurr with Muldrotha.

At this point I have a pretty good selection of artifacts and enchantments, and am now looking to fill out a few creature slots aswell.

Currently am running Sakura Elder and Yavimaya Elder as "must haves".

For sacables, I'm not sure if I should run Dawntreader Elk, or one of the 'reverse' versions such as dilligent farmhand and Embodiment of Spring. Burnished heart I'm really not sure of, it's colourless which is nice, and is a 2-for-1 on lands, but a 6 mana investment is pretty steep.

Alternatively I'm considering adding Millikin and that 'new' blue version of him(can't remember the name off the top of my head). They are slower than sac ramps and don't make colours, but have the upside of 'drawing' me a card into my grave.

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome, thanks!

The blue Millikin is Deranged Assistant.

Burnished Hart is specifically good as you can cast it for your artifact-per-turn, meaning you can cast it and a creature from your graveyard each turn.

Font of Fertility is another one. A 3 mana Rampant Growth isn't fantastic, but it is another card type than most of the other cards you'll be recurring each turn.

Something that's not exactly what you're looking for but worth running is Dreamscape Artist. Veteran Explorer is possibly worth running, depending on how worried you are about giving opponents lands.

Dawntreader Elk will be better than Embodiment of Spring due to the lack of tap requirement. But as for the question about running a 1CMC who sacs for 2 or a 2CMC who sacs for 1; Technially the 1CMC who sacs for 2 is better as you can paly it turn 1 and sac it turn two rahter than playing it turn 2 and having to wait to sac it until turn 3.

Also on your comment - Yavimaya Elder is actually not ramp. While he's a source of card advantage, he is slow and only puts lands in your hand. A card I have been impresseed with however is Heart Warden. Acts as ramp early game but is repeatable card advantage late game with your commander.

There's also Primal Growth which while not repeatable, gets you two lands and lets you get benefit from another creature ETB with your commander. In the same vein is Far Wanderings which benefits from having a full graveyard.

While this is not reusable ramp, it is by far my favorite card to use with the big M. Voyager Staff. It is a game saver.

Thanks all! :)

RazortoothMtg Ahh, thanks for the reminder on deranged assistant. I run him in my Lasav, but couldnt recall the name.

Font of Fertility is in there, as I said, Ive a pretty decent selection of both artifact and enchantment ramp effects going on. That is one of the reasons I was rather unsure of Burnished Hart, as I have 5 artifact ramp effects already included. But it is good, just feels too hampered by being colorless to be really efficient. Still, IDK on the Hart.

SteelSentry If I had some Sac outlets, I would probably run Veteran Explorer for sure, but my build so far has been almost exclusively self-sacrificing, and without a reliable way to get him dead, hes not quite worth it.

The ol Dreamscape artist... He just doesnt really hold up compared to other available ramp sources unfortunately. Sincehe requires a card in hand it is limited, and three additional mana as well kinda sucks. Plus he has to tap making him slow. He def fits the theme though, as he does discard and sac a land, which are both of little consequence when running muldrotha. A great suggestion, but I think just slightly to restrictive to be worth it.

enpc Thanks for pointing out Embodiment had a tap, I had just lumped it in with Diligent Farmhand and... now that I think of it, was there another? I was pretty sure there was, but now I cant recall. Hmmm... But yeah, Farmhand is better than the Elk for sure, thanks. Not just for curve, but because at worst its a cheaper chump blocker :P

Heart Warden is just so overcosted for the draw, and in a bad perm type. I could draw a card for free with an artifact cast, draw a card for 1 with an enchant, so paying 4 for a coveted creature cast slot just seems super inefficient.

Both far wanderings and primal growth have good synergy with Muldrotha, totally, but I was considering running a Primal Surge wincon with either Concordant Crossroads or Laboratory Maniac finishers. If the surge ends up getting dropped, they will probably both end up in there.

rob_shifflett I had the staff in my starting list, but 3 mana a turn to protect muldrotha was too costly, never mind having to use the artifact recast slot for it. When there is Neurok Stealthsuit, both Boots, Sylvan Safekeeper, and Siren Stormtamer at our disposal, the staff seems quite lusterless in comparison unfortunately.

Rusty_Shackleford I didnt link it, but I did mention in my OP that Sakura Elder was one of the "must have" rampers. Thanks though :)

Here is a pile of cards Im so far working with, if anyone is interested. Faaaaar from a deck, but in the works. Gravemind

I hope you have the classics Ashnod's Altar and Phyrexian Altar. Then there are Wild-Field Scarecrow, Ruthless Knave, the bros Priest of Yawgmoth and Soldevi Adnate, Corpse Harvester if you have cool zombies. If you have some ways to sacrifice artifacts there's also things like Pentad Prism and Sphere of the Suns.

Uskebasi As almost all of my stuff has the ability to sacrifice itself, additional sac outlets are superfluous generally. Although Ashnods does help get and keep Muldrotha out. But the ending total of creatures in the deck will probably only end up at 20-25. Should probably be in just to ramp out Muldrotha though, you are right.

Scarecrow doesnt really hold pace with Burnished Hart, Knave loses tempo, and Priest/Adnate would probably be better served as deranged assistant/millikin.

No sac outlets make Prism and Sphere subpar unfortunately.

Thanks for the sugestions! Will try and squeeze Ashnods in there.
