Standard Competitive Death and Taxes Midrange Mono-White

abby315

Sideboard

Mono-white death n' taxes in standard!

How it's NOT like death n taxes: everything is expensive and sorcery speed. :(

How it IS like death n taxes: your opponent will have a difficult time doing things. Attacking, playing things on curve; we even have our own little Land Tax.

The taxers: Archangel of Tithes, Knight of the White Orchid , Thalia, Heretic Cathar, Eldrazi Displacer, Vryn Wingmare.

The beaters: Gisela, the Broken Blade, Archangel Avacyn  .

The value: Thought-Knot Seer, Thraben Inspector, Thalia's Lancers, Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, Bruna, the Fading Light.

The Brisela: Fetchable with Thalia's Lancers + Eldrazi Displacer as a possible endgame. But still, I usually fetch up Bruna, the Fading Light if I'm anywhere near casting her because besides the Eldrazi, she can rez the next thing that dies. Super useful.

Interactions to Remember

Eldrazi Displacer:

You can flicker Spell Queller with Eldrazi Displacer to get back the exiled spell. You can also exile your opponent's spells if they are legal targets this way; it's a must clause, so they have to pick a legal target even if its their own.

You can flicker your own creature in response to removal or damage. You can flicker your own creature to stop lifelink from triggering.

Reflector Mage:

Brisela, Voice of Nightmares returns to your hand as both cards if bounced by Reflector Mage. You can cast either one again.

You can recast Archangel Avacyn   on your opponent's turn if she is bounced by Reflector Mage on yours.

Misc

You can Spatial Contortion in response to a Dromoka's Command.

Krallenhorde Caller makes Spell Queller a 2-drop. Beware! D:

Updates Add

Tested this deck in 5 matches against Bant CoCo, and it took 4 of the 5! So I'm taking this to Game Day!

The games are long, which is a problem, but I attribute that a bit to the fact that I'm new to this deck and my friend wasn't too familiar with Bant CoCo. Eldrazi Displacer and Linvala, the Preserver are ALL-STARS. Tragic Arrogance and Descend upon the Sinful in the sideboard are also incredibly good.

This deck also has a super aggressive possible curve if it's on the play; getting Thalia, Heretic Cathar out before Bant CoCo has the mana to Spell Queller it really surges us ahead, since many of their lands are nonbasic and they don't run much removal.

I'm trying to figure out if running 4 Hedron Crawler over the Knight of the White Orchid is a better idea. Knight of the White Orchid is REALLY good when he's good, but it can be difficult to get the land and he's pretty bad against Sylvan Advocate. Then again, with Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, he can be very good.

Still, I'm not going to test that change until I get in some matches against White Humans, Sultai Control, and other misc things that I could encounter at Game Day.

Any and all feedback, as always, appreciated!
