Brew for Ixalan standard.
The goal of the deck is to win with Revel in Riches.
Sideboarding
Vs Aggro with weenies you board in Contraband Kingpin and Gifted Aetherborn.
Vs Midrange you just board in the two Gifted Aetherborns.
Vs Combo (Second Sun) you board in Duress, Negate and Lost Legacy.. and probably all the creatures as well, because your removal is gonna be dead against them anyways.
Old Deck Interactions Show
One of the main interactions is to use
Inspiring Statuary to turn all the cheap artifacts in the deck, such as
Hope of Ghirapur,
Treasure Map
and
Filigree Familiar
into mana rocks.
It is worth noting that your Treasure tokens also become usable as mana rocks, so you don't have to sacrifice them anymore to use them for mana unless you want to use them for colored mana.
Bontu's Last Reckoning + Inspiring Statuary is also interesting in that you don't have to use all your land to cast spells when you can tap artifacts, and thus will have them available in your next turn.
Update 19-09-2017
After testing I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that.. obviously the gimmick with Hope of Ghirapur and Inspiring Statuary is way too inconsistent vs aggro.
Update 27-09-2017
Playtested vs Jund Midrange. Won more games than I realistically had hoped for. I learned that Deadeye Plunderers really isn't a good card, how amazing Opt is, and how I was playin' too many Bontu's Last Reckoning main deck.
Update 03-10-2017
First, I thought about it and came to the conclusion that while very cool, Vraska, Relic Seeker just doesn't do enough for this deck. I swapped her and a Walk the Plank for two Marionette Masters, to give the deck some more win-cons.
Then.. I played against U/W Second Sun. And boy was the match-up bad. Like damn, I had focussed way too much on stopping creatures. So much that I forgot another archetype exists. After the match, I knew I needed to play more early counterspells, like Censor and Supreme Will.
Then I played two more games Vs Jund Midrange, which was still a fine match-up. The Marionette Masters always got killed, as I expected, so it wasn't anything special.
To field the Censors and the Supreme Wills, I cut the
Filigree Familiar
(I love you guys, but I need space..!) and both the Spell Swindles (I'll see you in EDH, my love!) since while they might be really cool, you need a lot of mana to cast them. I also removed a bontu's and added a second Reverse Engineer.
I also updated my side-board quite a bit. I'm now running Duress, Gifted Aetherborn (which is better than
Filigree Familiar
if it sticks), and Lost Legacy. In all, the changes I made to the deck today should really help with the control match-ups.
Update 12-10-2017
Tested against Bant tokens with Cradle and more Jund Midrange. Returned a second Bontu's to the mainboard, because the deck really needs it when the opponent goes wide. This friday will be my first FNM. I'm gonna be running a fourth Censor over a fourth Fatal Push, even though I haven't playtested that change yet, because while push is great early it kinda fall over later and can't kill things that are too big.Removed the inventor's fair from the list since I haven't tested it enough. Will post my FNM results in the next update. :)
Update 13-10-2017
Had my first type-2 FNM! This was the list at that time: https://i.gyazo.com/601896fa3578228f916bc3824ab925ac.png
First round: Jund Midrange with
Walking Balista
. Show
G1: Midrange pre-board is one of my better match-ups and it showed. I was able to kill all his threats until he ran out of gas and was able to win on Revel in Riches. 1-0
G2: Got Lost Legacy'd on turn 3 without being able to do anything about it. Tried to come back as I can still win on Marionette Master, but my Treasure Map
s got Abrade'd twice. 1-1
G3: Really close game, but at the end I flooded on land while he got a lucky streak of gas. 1-2
Second round: Dimir Aggro Flyers with
favourable winds
. Show
G1: Won by stalling long enough to win with Marionette Master. 1-0
G2: Had to mulligan to a 6-hander with two lands, of which 2 were Dire Fleet Hoarders. Could be sorta aggresive until he stabilised with 2/3s. 1-1
G3: Had to mull to 6 again and drew horribly. Ended the game with two revels and a mario in hand. 1-2
Third round: Azorius Second Sun. Show
G1: The dreaded match-up. Really, there is nothing worse. Ended the game with 5 cards in hand: All of them were removal spells. 0-1
G2: Even though I kept more than enough removal in the deck post-boarding, I didn't see a single one and got beaten to death by cats. 0-2
Final Result Show
So I officially went 1-3, though it really was more of a 0-3. Still, I do not think this is completely representative of the strength of the deck (which I acknowlegde is a silly jank deck). Both round 1 and 2 were extremely close and could have easily swung in my favor.
I stand with my statement that mid-range decks are a positive match-up for this deck, at least pre-board, but I am gonna be really aggresive in changing this deck. I wan't to try making more treasures early, so I'm going to force some cards during testing that allow me to do that. I'm definitely going to 4 Treasure Map
, since I always wanna see it, and I'm also gonna try out Inspiring Statuary again, which hasn't been in the deck since its first iteration. It was removed at that point because the deck looked completely different and it just didn't work, but I think that it could still have potential.
I'm not giving up on the deck just yet!
