Sideboard

Maybeboard

Land (1)

The core is the normal Merfolk Tribal, and so without any trickery the deck runs to flood the board with Merfolk. They synergize so well that just playing up the curve and then casting 2 a turn mid to late game will automatically provide some degree of card advantage and some team buffing.

The 2-drop is either drawing cards/advantage or a Lord. At 3-drop we have some clogging and the fricking most bad ass Lord around, Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. Next up there’s Hostage Taker to remove a blocker or key piece, Tempest Caller to break through clogged boards, and El Chupy to eliminate threats or blockers.

Zombie portion? Arcane Adaptation makes all our Merfolk into Zombies, to appease The Scarab God who has returned Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca from the dead to seek his vengeance on the Standard metagame.

Panharmonicon really takes things over the top. It slows down a turn, but we don’t mind sitting back with a group of Merfolk to buy time. If it sticks around a turn and doesn’t get Abraded or Negated, getting double ETB gets nuts. Double or quadruple Explore? Double card draw, or kill creature, or kidnap something, or put on counters, or make a token? And then Scarab God just wrecks town bringing them back again.

Unsummon can save our stuff in a pinch, mess up combat on both ends, get a card back to reuse it’s ETB, bounce an opponent’s creature to slow things down or clear the way for blockers. Fatal Push is a card, and it’s legal in this format, so...

More to come...

Sideboard to come, still tinkering a lot with the main board.
