I have been keeping an eye on Affinity since I couldn't really play it with my luck the way it was. (Aggro's hands required a lot of mulligans and whatnot.) I have always liked the deck but it had a lot of inconsistencies with starting hands. Some hands were "here's my hand on the table" turn 1, while others were "please let me draw into an actual card that isn't tiny.
Now that Hangarback Walker is a thing Affinity decks have been taking more of a midrange route, which is much better for my playstyle. Thank you Chandra, for being born on Thopter World. Midrange tends to pack more threats than Affinity used to and this is good for me because I don't have to worry about mulliganing to the perfect hand anymore.
This incarnation is Joseph Reiter's version card for card. Once I get more comfortable with this version of Affinity (as it's a massive change from what I usd to play) I'll start to make changes to mold to my meta. Expect those changes to come few and far beween.
While I playtest this does anyone have any ways to mitigate the impact of burn? My meta is about 50%-60% burn and most of them are played by control players and, as such, played like control decks. (They actually Lightning Bolt creatures.) I suppose I could run Chalice of the Void on 1, but I also need to find a way to deal with mass artifact removal like Shatterstorm and Vandalblast. (Yes, these people run Vandalblast.)
I love affinity. And good luck with it. I was looking at doing a similar thing this is my hanky affinity build.
+1 from me.

If you want to beat Burn, Dragon's Claw is a thing. If your opponents run Vandalblast/Shatterstorm, then the best thing to do is probably to just ignore it and beat them before they land those cards (which, incidentally, are terrible in Burn.) Even if they do somehow resolve a Shatterstorm or Vandalblast, Hangarback tokens+manlands can probably clean up on the next turn. They should be Bolting your Vault Skirges, but if they hit anything else, you're probably fine. Ravager can often eat them for a counter, and they really can't afford to lose that much gas, because you win the topdeck war (Cranial Plating > literally anything they can do.)
