If you are set on running Pharika's Chosen , may I suggest replacing them with the strictly better Ruthless Ripper that will be coming next expansion?

Well since youll be putting lots of creatures in graveyards Avatar of Woe would be a good fit but it would no longer be standard. Sure would be fun with your friends though.

new black discard despise gets rid of planeswalkers out of hand as well and its a common you might want to consider that in at least sideboard, the red is a good idea but it seems like it would only slow things down I would concentrate more on the draw effect the faster you draw the faster you get land and win game and since you have mono black more nythkos shrine

adding to what I said earlier easy sac ability erebos's emissary and also another way to add to the deck doom wake giant you have enough enchantment creatures in the deck it can be useful and cheap since you are playing mono marshmist titan and since you have sac ability with no mana cost you can add scuttling doom engine and champion of stray souls, keep it mono definatly that way you don't have to worry about if you can get the red mana but if you really want to add other colors add gild and king macar, the gold cursed they give you the other color you need and get rid of creatures as well

Merciless Executioner would be good with Dictate of Erebos, he goes in makes them sac then kill him or something else and trigger dictate

I'm just gonna say that Phyrexian Obliterator destroys in devotion builds...

Maybe try Mesmeric Fiend instead of Brain Maggot

great thinkin', ConfusedQuagsire! Didn't know that card existed. Looks like I'll just have to sub it out if I go to any modern tournaments.

But Mesmeric Fiend isn't modern legal...

February 24, 2018 5:02 a.m.

My bad, Inferno1337 I didn't check if it was legal. I was just thinking that if it was Mesmeric Fiend than it couldn't be the target of cards such as Naturalize.

Hey, the deck seems fun, I'll maybe add something to help trigger the Phyrexian Obliterator, to help you deal with some pesky enchantments and stuff if needed. I mean, nobody is gonna block the obliterator unless they have a serious plan ahead.

As you play Modern, there are not many cards available (especially the allstar Arena) but if you add some red mana to your manabase, maybe Pit Fight could do the job, and as the obliterator is not the only threat available (I mean, you play Big Demons right ?) in your deck, could be versatile enough (helps you "sacrifice" stuff when Dictate is out or use one last time a creature about to be exiled)

Expedition Map to tutor Nykthos, and maybe a Bojuka Bog could be added ? Just to make sure Snapcaster, Dredge (or other graveyard stuff your opponents could have) loose a bit of value ?

Hmmm, I wonder what set you came in on? Anyway, I'd suggest some more removal like Dismember, Fatal Push, or (for discard) Inquisition of Kozilek. Dark Confidant is awesome, if you have the money. One last thing: I'd take out the planeswalkers, they don't seem necessary and seem too slow. If you want a planeswalker to fit in there, I'd run 2-3 Liliana of the Veil. It really depends on your budget and playgroup. +1

Thanks, Catalog9000! The card is the promo Eater of Hope from Born of the Gods. The art is sweet, but the card requires being built around.

I really like your deck, I am just a bit confused over the usage of Temple of Aclazotz. The temple cannot be played in the deck because it is a flip of Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip. With that being said I don't know if the flip condition is a desirable one to fit a place in your deck as it is sort of high risk high reward in my opinion but that is for you decide. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. Cheers.

Upvoted, because I like the Demon creature type, Black Devotion, and this deck does both in a way that looks good.

Cool deck, i like it. Too expensive for me though. I always wanted to play Mono black devotion but it hurts my wallet. I wanna ask, why Surgical Extraction maindeck? Also, I think that Dread Shade isn't that good in modern. Nantuko Shade is just better cause of cheaper mana. Finally, i would remove the 2 Bojuka Bog for 2 Cabal Stronghold.

May 29, 2018 4:35 p.m.

DonaldFuck, thanks for the tips! I just play against a lot of graveyard heavy decks where I play, so I made this one to be heavy on counters for those. I’ll probably sideboard the two Surgical Extraction and maybe drop Demonic Vigor all-together to add a playset of Bloodghast to speed the deck up. I’m also gonna remove one of the Bojuka Bog for the Cabal Stronghold. I feel like it’ll be good to keep one, because graveyard decks aren’t too uncommon in other modern tournaments. You’re totally right about Dread Shade. Honestly, I thought Geralf's Messenger got exiled after dying with a 1/1 counter, but after realizing he doesn’t, there’s no way I could replace that with another 3-cast. Thanks again!

love the deck i have a devotion deck of my own and found that the card Extirpate performed better then Surgical Extraction also is much cheaper. Also im interested to hear how Demigod of Revenge performs with it at the top of the curve.

February 3, 2020 1:24 a.m.

MrNobleMonkey, thank you! Extirpate is an excellent replacement to Surgical Extraction. Nearly get the whole playset for the price of one extraction! As far as Demigod of Revenge I would say it's certainly the weakest card in the deck, but it usually ends up helping me fish out removal spells in order to give Phyrexian Obliterator a better chance. If I swapped out any card it'd be the demigod though. Works far better in my deck Revenge of the Underworld [Remastered] it fairs far better thanks to the engines that can put it in the graveyard. Entomb might be a good option, but I figure we want as many permanents as possible to rack up devotion. Sometimes it pays off if I've got Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, but by and large it gets 5 damage in and then gets killed off. I'll probably end up switching demigod out for either Murderous Rider or Ayara, First of Locthwain.
