This is designed to be a lockdown/control deck, it's got black for creature control, and blue for cancels for other types of spells to slow down the game, and Isochron Scepter to magnify all of those 2 cost spells.

Then I added the empires cards for offense, the scepter for damage, the throne for both offense and defense, and the crown for an inexpensive mind-control every turn, which gives me a more powerful attacker from my opponent.

Any deck that is creature heavy will be paralyzed early by destruction and late by mind-controls.

Burn decks will be slowed down by Counterspell and punished with Redirect .

For combo-decks there shouldn't be too much problem identifying and canceling the combo, and if the combo involves a creature, destroying it.

However there may be other types of decks, which rely more on enchantments and artifacts which may require a little luck to get an Isochron Scepter and a Counterspell early to shut them down. Although luck is helped quite a bit by Demonic Tutor.

This deck also likes to have lots of mana, so that it can play Isochron scepter on it's turn cards but still have mana free on opponent's turns to shut them down.

This is also a casual deck I play with my friends, but it beats my next-best deck every time (an angels deck), and cost me a lot less to build than the Angels deck.
