Sideboard

Maybeboard

I really wanted to dabble in some control, but I really love some of the creatures in standard. I feel like BUG/Sultai has quite a bit of both to offer.

As you can see, all the creatures in this deck either have Hexproof or is just tough to get rid of. With spot removal being so heavy, I feel like having creatures with Hexproof is the only reasonable way to get the mana investment you put into them.

Beyond the creatures, I try to expand on the control using my own spot removal in black along with blue counters and a few draws to refuel. I feel like this is the area I need the most help though. There are so many options here and I would love any suggestions on how to be more efficient, since I want to have mana to cast creatures/planeswalkers and have enough mana for these cards on any given turn.

The two planeswalkers, Kiora, the Crashing Wave & Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver fit in pretty well with the control aspect, but I'm not completely sold on Ashiok yet. (feels a little bit slow and dependent on the opponent, even with a creature heavy meta).

Overall, I feel like this deck is poised to compete against most of the meta right out of the gate. Aggro might be toughest to take in game 1, but sideboarding in the remaining Drown in Sorrow, and Bile Blight help to slow aggro down to a manageable play. Still, I'd love some advice on anything.

Had to give up on staying completely Hexproof. Reaper of the Wilds is a great card, but it just takes too much to guarantee protection for it. I have shifted to a quicker solution in Rakshasa Deathdealer.

Creatures:

Sylvan Caryatid - Hexproof/Mana Fixer/Early Blocker

Rakshasa Deathdealer - Tough Body/ Early Board Control/Late Game Hitter

Prognostic Sphinx - Hexproof/Evasive/Scry

Sagu Mauler - Hexproof/Late Game Hitter

I feel like I have settled on all of the mainboard instants and sorceries. Instead of mainboarding to play specifically against aggro or against the biggest deck out there in the meta right now, Abzan, I'm trying to mainboard cards that are effective in almost all archetypes to some degree. My sideboard is setup to allow me to plie on hate as needed once I know my matchup.

Instants/Sorcs:

6 Cheap Discards in Despise and Thoughtseize for early game control.

5 Solid Removal in Hero's Downfall, and Drown in Sorrow

5 Counters in Dissolve, Negate. I had the hardest time coming to a decision on the right kind of counter spells

3 Draw in Dig Through Time which is easily fueled by Delve.

2 Flex in Sultai Charm.

Planeswalkers:

The one area where I feel like I've cornered cards are my planeswalkers because they are both good against midrange/control. They should be sideboarded out against any cheap CMC aggro deck.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - Midrange/Control

Kiora, the Crashing Wave - Midrange/Control
