Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper Discussion

cygnussnowdog on Noyan Dar EDH Control

godhadtonerfme Since the deck runs few creatures, my suggestion is targeted removal for Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper to prevent lands from getting too big, or to stop a land that has already gotten big.

I have a land 'animated' with Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper, and Reconnaissance on the battlefield. I attack with the land.

Can I activate Reconnaissance to untap the attacking land, tap it for mana, then active Reconnaissance again and again for infinite mana until the phase ends?

Can I activate Reconnaissance to untap the attacking land for a bunch of times (holding priority), then tap it for mana after each activation resolves?

If not, is it because the creature isn't considered attacking after the first activation?

Thank you, in advance.

Please stop putting <36 lands if your ~ CMC is not <3.

I get why you chose Azor for a control build but I don't know if he is the best choice. How you want to play ultimately decides that. Azor is a conundrum because as control you want to leave mana up to answer threats but he wants to attack and draw cards. Other UW options are Ephara, God of the Polis which can be more staxxy w hate-bears; Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper is more spellslinger control w lands like Darksteel Citadel being your win-con; and the new Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage would be more legendary and artifact stax.

Regardless, I like a lot of what is going on. I think you could add more hate-bears like Eidolon of Rhetoric and Hushwing Gryff to passively mess with all opponents. The problem w control is you are trying to manipulate 3 opponents, and 1 spell for 1 answer means 2 others were not answered. Capsize lets you continually bounce problems mid-late game.

Sun Titan could be nice additional value if you build a little around it without detracting from the whole deck. Wayfarer's Bauble and Burnished Hart can come back for more ramp; Mind Stone and Commander's Sphere for extra draw (as you have); Ghost Quarter and Scavenger Grounds for hate; Hope of Ghirapur and Soul Snare can keep the control coming.

Minotaur Runt

Creature- Minotaur Vampire

When this creature enters the battlefield, you lose 2 life.

Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

I was the weakest, but they have made me strong.

I've been where you are, trying to compete with cEDH level decks on a budget. Honestly, it doesn't work. To get from this list to there, I would suggest replacing cards you have with their strictly better counterparts, like Underworld Connections -> Necropotence, Dictate of Kruphix -> Rhystic Study, stuff like that. I would also begin weeding through your cards and take out any that don't actively contribute to your combo gameplan, like Bastion Protector, Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper, etc. and replace them with either mroe tutors or draw or mana artifacts. doing one thing very well is infinitely better than doing multiple things mediocre.

While I like storm in this deck, I've been avoiding it to try things that are more appropriate for Jodah.

Sentinel Tower and Guttersnipe are both good, and I've considered running Sphinx-Bone Wand, which would work even better. Its a matter of what to adjust in the deck, and if it give me more than what I take out, since none of these change the way you would play the deck.

Docent of Perfection  Flip and Metallurgic Summonings do well for my token generation, and Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper use to be in the deck, and might return eventually.

Mizzix of the Izmagnus is alright, but in my current build, its value is generally less than having my commander on the field. I don't really care about gradually reducing costs.

Have you thought about throwing in Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper?

AmbivalentAnswer on Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper: Swing with Infinite Lands!

Hello, epic_eeyore. Thank you for looking through my decklist and commenting on it. I've included below the ruling that I think applies to this scenario; if I'm interpreting it correctly, the Clone Legion or Rite of Replication would be able to create token copies of lands animated by Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper but those tokens would only have the characteristics printed on the lands copied. If that's correct, then the copies would not be creatures at that time, so it wouldn't matter that they have no +1/+1 counters on them Of course, I do not claim to be an expert or judge; if there is something I misconstrued I should very much like to hear it.

706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objects characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by as . . . enters the battlefield and as . . . is turned face up abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.
