Grave Betrayal with Land Creatures
Asked by Queue_Continuum 8 years ago
If someone else's land creature dies (say if they're running a Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper deck) and I control a Grave Betrayal. does is still come under my control at the end step? If so, I'm assuming that it won't be a creature anymore but does it have the +1/+1 counter that Grave Betrayal gives it?

Yes.
Because the land is a creature when it dies, it will trigger Grave Betrayal's ability. The ability doesn't care that the card isn't actually a creature normally or in other zones. When it resolves, it will return the inanimate land to the battlefield (remember that the effect that made it a creature ended when the land creature died).
Cards that do not have the creature or tribal types cannot have creature subtypes. Therefore, Grave Betrayal's ability won't make the land a Zombie. But the land will still be black, and it will have a +1/+1 counter on it. The counter won't matter unless the land gets animated somehow.
