B/R Vampiric Hate

Modern

Maybeboard

This deck started out from an idea I had following a B/R deck I was playing on the MTG app, and kinda revolved around the combo of Indulgent Tormentor/Sheoldred. Lots of vampires from Innistrad and Zendikar are the foundation, and it really just goes for some aggro from there. Competitive? Hardly, but it's been a whole bucket-load of fun to play over the years!

Alongside aggro, there is a theme of forced discard/sacrifice that I want to try to improve on, but I don't want to sacrifice the interesting aspect of the deck, like the level-up cards. I have a real attachment to the Mages from M12 so definitely want to keep those in, but overall I suppose I'm just thinking of getting my vampires bigger through combat!

There are so many cards that I'd like to include that I've got a lot of single copies of cards, more for variety's sake, but also to avoid the sort of removal that targets each copy of a named card. I've currently removed three cards to the maybe board, as I'm pondering whether to include more copies of other cards in the deck to help with consistency. Sheoldred herself will likely end up being a singleton because I can't afford multiple copies, but if it's worth trying to level up for, then I suppose I might do it. At any rate, any help would be appreciated here!

Updates Add

So after a bit of thought and more plays with the deck, I've started to swap in some different cards to see how they do. I've recently begun to buy more expensive cards, which is something I'm not generally keen to do, but hopefully they'll be of some use!

I managed to pick up a Blackcleave Cliffs for a reasonable price on ebay, and it was in amazing condition, as well as a Sulfurous Springs, both of which have yet to really see play, but they look cool in the deck! I've also ordered some Blood Crypts, so just waiting for those to arrive now. While not especially expensive, I've also added in a pair of Molten Slagheaps because of some more cards I've added...

Due to the fact that I have a decent number of level-up cards in the deck, I'd started to think about adding in some Proliferate cards to help those guys level up faster. Grim Affliction and Volt Charge both have useful abilities as well as the keyword, which I quite enjoy. The addition of the storage lands will also benefit from this, as well as the fact that my vampires should be getting +1/+1 counters! That was something I actually hadn't considered, but seems to work really well!

I've swapped out some creatures to see if they have any impact. Another Sheoldred, Whispering One was definitely on the cards for a while, and I managed to pick up a Massacre Wurm at the same time there. The Pulse Trackers were useful cards that didn't have as much of an impact if played late, so I've swapped them out for the Quag Vampires, the Multikicker ability there meaning they should have a decent impact whenever they land. Any further benefits for Proliferate are also more than welcome!

I'm still keeping an eye out for how to keep tuning-up the deck, anyway...
