So here we go:
Another year of commander precons and another year of excitement. What are you looking forward to? What do you hope for? What would you really dislike?
Bet you to it SimicPower. I like that it makes Phage more playable.

NecroPony: I actually saw your post and that's how I found out about the card! But your image would't load on my browser so I reposted.
November 3, 2015 2:36 p.m.
Yeah, I second the Riku flavortext. That's pretty sweet. The land is definitely playable.
Also dis is nuts.

Command Beacon + Crucible of Worlds = Commander tax shouldn't be a thing, right?
November 3, 2015 2:45 p.m.
LittleBlueHero says... #9
Correct Commander tax is only taken into account when casting from the command zone. Also the green Confluence is fantastic I second the triggering of option 2 three times.

Also I love the interaction between Crucible of Worlds any sac land and Mazirek (B/G alt commander)

Command Beacon + Titania, Protector of Argoth + Food Chain = infinite 5/3 tokens

Find this confluence more difficult to analyze than the red one. I feel like that 6 mana drop needs to be pretty big before I am really happy with it. The flexibility is nice, just not sure if I want to pay six mana for like a three card, limited Restock, or 6 counters or midgame big ramp.
November 3, 2015 3:12 p.m.

Oh hey. My Sigarda deck just found a few card to play with.
November 3, 2015 3:19 p.m.
Phew... For a moment, I thought that said "Enchantment". I was terrified.

"Commander creatures" is definitely a bit....awkward feeling. Much like myself. Maybe that's why I like this card so much.
(Just kidding. It's because I like un-sacrificable, indestructible, hexproof, flying 7/7 commanders)
November 3, 2015 3:34 p.m.
Bastion protector is certainly good for Voltron builds and can provide some shenanigans. It's also legal in Tiny Leaders, which makes me wonder if your TL counts as a "commander" so you can have an Indestructible TL.
November 3, 2015 3:38 p.m.
I'm well aware that control magic exists.
"Commander card" is weird. Does that refer to any card in the commander expansion? Does it include the 2 sub Commander's? I know these are silly questions, but I could see it confusing new players.
Cards used to exist that reference card sets. See Apocalypse Chime.

JWiley129 "Elder Dragon Highlander (a.k.a. Commander) Rules: a comprehensive list of the precursor format's rules can be found at http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php."
Source. It then goes on to talk about the two exceptions. I'm pretty sure "EDH Rules" means your TL counts as a commander.
November 3, 2015 3:46 p.m.
So this is a thing...
![]()
Combo it with Food Chain in a deck with Titania, Protector of Argoth as the Commander.
Cast her... sac her for 6 mana... sac the land to bring her to your hand... cast her... bring back the land, and have +1 mana in your pool...
Repeat!
November 3, 2015 3:47 p.m. Edited.
NecroPony It means all commanders being used in the current game (i.e. starting out in the command zone). Legendary creature =/= commander, and I'm pretty sure new players won't misunderstand. It seems fairly clear to me :/
November 3, 2015 3:49 p.m.
I'm well aware. LiveForChaos I've been playing commander for almost 4 years. It just sounds weird and I could see how it could confuse newcomers.
I guess I just overcomplicate/over think things
November 3, 2015 3:52 p.m. Edited.
I personally find it amusing how we finally got a (very) good commander which puts +1/+1 counters on other creatures, and now people are pulling out all these previously obsolete cards which work really well with it, most of which we have seen before and thought about for a while before deciding they are useless.
November 3, 2015 3:55 p.m.
NecroPony - Here's my flow chart for how I'm reading Bastion Champion.
Is this creature someone's Commander? If yes, continue.
Do you control said creature? If yes, continue.
That creature gets +2/+2 and has indestructible.
It is a bit hard to grok, but wholly simple.
(I'm a math teacher, I'm used to students overthinking things)
November 3, 2015 3:56 p.m.
@K34: Why? The original art is great and it only costs $.25.

From MaRo's twitter account, I believe.
November 3, 2015 6 p.m. Edited.
That's really cool. A blue Fog that triggers etb's.
November 3, 2015 6:10 p.m.
NecroPony: i also was wondering about the bastion dude. what if you had changelings? would they get the buff because they technically are commanders? what if you chose Commander off of a Xenograft?
November 3, 2015 6:37 p.m.
RedUndead40 says... #33
CheeseBro, Commander is not a subtype, so Changeling creatures are not commanders.
Your "Commander" is limited to a single card, namely whichever you card begins the game in your command zone. The same is true for your opponents, so if you Act of Treason someone's commander with the Bastion guy out, that other commander would also get the bonus as long as you control it.
November 3, 2015 6:39 p.m. Edited.
RedUndead40 yeah, thats what i thought, but it is confusingly worded.

Also, does Ezuri seem really broken compared to the other commanders?
All of the other commanders get MAX 1 xp counter per spell cast.
Ezuri can net you 8+ with just a single card like Avenger of Zendikar...

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight shall be reprinted in this set! I need to purchase two copies of her for decks that I am building (a red/white/blue EDH deck and a red/white/black EDH deck), and I was wondering if I should wait to see if she was reprinted or purchase her as soon as possible. I now am very glad that I waited, since the reprinted version shall be less expensive that the original printing!

Does Bastion Protector make anyone else want to play a weird 2 commander deck?

I'm stoked to play the new Ezuri. I think that playing it like a normal elf deck that has permission is the way to go, and it will likely be quite the powerful deck.
November 3, 2015 9:34 p.m.
Ezuri the morph commander? The infect commander? The utility creatures turned fat commander? The elves-with-blue commander?
Lots of very different paths to take. I like it.

New magus cycle would be awesome. Also this guy is epic in Nekusar and Feldon decks.
November 3, 2015 11:22 p.m.
I wanted to circle back on comments by NecroPony and others about the wording on Bastion Protector.
Why "Commander creatures"? I mean I get it that we can have Commander Planeswalkers and Commander Enchantments (the Gods, until they get enough devotion), but why differentiate?
November 3, 2015 11:33 p.m.
I like the Magus. It's great for the reasons beakedbard mentioned but I also like it if I am playign Naya and drop my hand really fast.
The deck where it would have been most powerful is EDH Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. That deck, played as control with a hint of voltron, not much, would LOVE a creature that it can sacrifice and get back every turn to draw 7 cards. The deck can easily already win 3 player games, and 4 player games as well. Having the ability to draw 7 is just nuts. Imagine this deck and that the creature had 2 power.

Honestly I am really dissapointed that it doesn't work with Alesha. Why print a creature like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death if you're going to have to adjust every single creature made after it to not be abuseable? I mean they didn't want to have to worry about Birthing Pod so they just got rid of it. So either ban Alesha or just get over the mistake and stop "checking" cards against her. Epic Fail WTC.
Anywho I still love the card and am looking forward to bringing it back with Sun Titan mwahahahah! Lastly I'm not a Chaos Zedruu player but I'm sure they will also love to Sun Titan this.
November 3, 2015 11:53 p.m.
kengiczar I doubt they were more than marginally thinking of her when they made that card, and it's not like WTC can ban Alesha or not anyways.
November 4, 2015 12:05 a.m.
@ kengiczar I doubt they're concerning themselves with Alesha too much. If anyone at WotC follows Commander at all, they'd know that she's really not that amazing. Alesha is very low tier two at best. Typically weaker than Kaalia, who is already tier two at best. Not exactly something you have to avoid making too strong.
...Unless you're talking about modern. She hasn't made a massive splash there either though. I don't follow the format too closely, so I only know the top 7-8 decks. As far as I know, none of them use Alesha though.
