Should Muldrotha Eldrazi be Sac or Mill?

Commander Deck Help forum

My deck Muldrotha Eldrazi is a new deck I've been working on to compete at the higher power tables I run into. The idea is to dredge into life of the loam for lands while using cards like Malevolent Rumble to make spawn/scions to ramp into them. Support pieces include Birthing Pod & Cankerbloom.

I've used this exact deck several times and it's too slow, has no impact on the board, and is super fragile. If I add cards like Protean Hulk and Greater Goodfoil, what should I replace? Should I add the bigger eldrazi? What should I have as control pieces? Should I scrap this deck and start over from scratch?

I have no budget so any suggestions would be useful. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest looking at This primer for some pretty good insight.

Its a little dated but I still think could help reach some conclusions.

I would suggest mill personally as there are myriad sacrifice themes. And usually you dont want to be sacrificing your drazi if going that route. I built a sultai Sidisi mill reanimator deck once and it was quite fun. Doing this will eldrazi--sweew--hella good time. Any of the permanent reanimator spells are golden here. Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, etc. Personal favs (while mostly not perms) are Exhumefoil, Restart Sequence, Zombify, Aftermath Analyst, and last but not least Rise of the Dark Realms. Also note, turning almost all your cards into permanents really boost Muldrotha's synergy and theme.

I would also add that these archetypes aren't terrific at going against higher power as they invoke a high random chance in mill synergies, etc. Eldrazi based high power--hmmm--I would say something Kinnan-y. Vohar, Vodalian Desecrator is a personal fav reanimator if you do want to keep it somewhat mid.

Hope this helps, Cheers!

Mill also has the advantage of letting you play small mill creatures with upside to gum up the board; There's a lot of small creatures with deathtouch or grab a card and mill so you're not readily open to be attacked. Any that can also be a different card type like Nyx Weaver or Millikin will make them slightly more relevant with Muldrotha out as well.

Self-mill and reanimation are directions to consider expanding. However, before you think about them consider first focusing on more ramp (0-3 CMC)?

Muldrotha is 6 mana and you have very few lower mana cost ramp spells. Scions aren't really reliable ramp since they only give you a burst of colorless mana after being saced. Consider more ramp that you can use more than one turn? More ramp like this can help gameplay, make it easier to cast your higher mana cost spells especially Muldrotha and give you more mana to cast different spells from your graveyard when you control Muldrotha. Consider at least 12 ramp sources?

Carpet of Flowers is powerful mana generation in multiplayer Commander.

Another direction to consider is to play more effects that let you play more than one land a turn. This makes Life from the Loam more powerful since you're filling your hand with lands.

Eternal Witness is really good with Muldrotha and self-mill since it gives you access to any card in your graveyard, a nonpermanent spell such as Diabolic Intent that you can't cast with Muldrotha.
