Help Beating Muldrotha Stax

Commander Deck Help forum

This Muldrotha, the Gravetide Stax deck is dominating our LGS...the guy gives all his creatures shroud, combos Birthing Pod to get creatures out that answer all of our threats, gains 24 life per turn with Zuran Orb, re-plays all of his lands and just sits there smirking until we scoop through boredom.

For the love of Mike please give us some advice to take him down!

Graveyard hate definitely helps, or you can get a deck that can put the pressure on him pretty quick, like group slug or voltron. I have a Zo-Zu the Punisher punisher deck that I pull out in response to Muldrotha (or really any powerful value decks), and with it and a little politics you can keep it in check.

Boza - Rest in Peace would be good but he toasts enchantments turn after turn like it ain't no thang...

SteelSentry yeah, yeah...Zo-Zu the Punisher would really cramp his style and hose Muldrotha big time - look's like I gotta excuse to make another EDH deck :D

Thraximundar or, STAXimundar, with edict effects, other pain such as Kaervek the Merciless, Rain of Gore and as much annihilator and land destruction as you can cram in the deck in the Grixis colors.

As an alternative, Kresh the Bloodbraided. Same concept, just in Jund, which gives you access to Ruric Thar, the Unbowed along with Kaervec and Rain of Gore. Green also gives you access to Asceticism and Scavenging Ooze.

Silent Gravestone, Grafdigger's Cage, Arcane Lighthouse, Bojuka Bog...

Omen Machine is really good at hosing extra draw decks.

Hell, I just might build one of these decks now...

muldrotha decks are usually 100% offline when muldrotha isnt in play, easiest to counterspell or remove him and/or his protection

muldrotha decks scoop to rest in peace. enchantment removal doesnt matter when he doesnt have a graveyard to play cards from.

theres also Rakdos Charm, Bojuka Bog, Leyline of the Void, Relic of Progenitus, Scrabbling Claws, Nihil Spellbomb, Tormod's Crypt.....

muldrotha only dominates LGS when nobody in the LGS runs graveyard hate. and everyone should be regardless of muldrotha.

you and your local playgroup simply dont run enough removal and hose effects. change that.

I would think about infinite haste tokens combos. Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame for the win for only 5 mana. If you play Purphoros, God of the Forge you can win without swinging. Does he play the Mindslicer lock too

Grafdigger's Cage, Torpor Orb and Humility. These you could perhaps run.

What about Control Magic, Take Possession, Confiscate, and Corrupted Conscience? That his commander or the problem and make it his problem.

What about chaos. Scrambleverse, and Thieves' Auction

griffstick Thankfully he does not run the Mindslicer lock...that's crazy!

I am known as the "King of Chaos" in these here parts so I will add some graveyard hate plus a few spells that can steal Muldrotha to my Chaos deck and see how that fares.

Many thanks for all of the suggestions everyone!

One card I have not seen mentioned, which Muldrotha hates and can be your Commander: Anafenza, the Foremost. Often overlooked, you can go two routes with her in charge. The first is the one I use, probably not the stronger option. Build up an army boosted by +1/+1 counters that add abilities to your creatures. The second, just plain evil option, is Anafenza mill/go ahead and kill my creatures option. Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Butcher of Malakir, Trepanation Blade, Keening Stone, Balustrade Spy, Destroy the Evidence, Martyr's Bond and the like make Muldrotha's plan painful to execute.
