I found a Blood Tyrant in the bargain bin. Seems perfect for Marchesa but I'm not sure what to drop yet. I need to do more playtesting.

Since you have zealous conscripts, you should add Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker for another infinite combo win condition. I also recommend Necropotence over phyrexian arena to not only manipulate life totals but also better card draw. Feel free to check out my list for more ideas!

Kiki-Jiki is neither budget nor casual, but thanks. I have him in my goblin deck and he draws enough table-hate for all my decks (he'd crush it in my Feldon deck). My group frowns upon infinite combos generally and two-piece combos are even worse. Besides, I don't have as much fun winning like that.

Necropotence, to me, is one of those "famous, popular, structly-better but non-budget" cards I typically never run. I'd replace Greed with it, more likely. Hell, run all four. I hadn't fully appreciated the Marchesa synergy until now, though, so thanks! Consider it on the list for upgrades down the line.

Love this list, haha. Nothing like abusing a wacky ability in jank ways.

since you have Ashnod's Altar, might consider putting in Insurrection

altar + insurrection + marchesa + attacking throne = probable kill, and keeping non-commander creatures when you sac them with alter (marchesa's last ability will bring them back under your control)

Insurrection has been on the maybe list since day one and that interaction is well-known to me--in fact I'm a little insulted you even bothered to write the "keeping non-commander creatures when you sac them with alter (marchesa's last ability will bring them back under your control)" part. I mean really? Who doesn't know that's Marchesa's main steeze?! Is it not obvious the deck if full of sac outlets and theft cards for that very reason?

Insurrection just out of budget though. It's on the short list for upgrades but I'm not there yet. Thank you.

Thanks for the +1s you're deck is pretty good i was looking at making a marchesa deck and your deck made it seem possible using grafting abilities, I was looking at a bolster ambush style but the way you set yours up seems more do able. I big difference I see between our decks is I have more removal and creatures that I purposely would want to die for on death triggers. Rose of Regeneration wouldn't have been made without you

Thanks! I stand on the shoulders of giants though. That said, I'm quite proud of this deck and the personal touches I put on it. Definitely in my top-two favorite decks to play.

I cannot recommend the graft cards enough. They allow so many shenanigans. For one, they let one sacrifice your board and bring them all back with counters already on them.

Have you considered Keiga, the Tide Star I put her in mine and it seems like a very useful card seeing as we can sac it for its ability to activate and bring her right back

I definitely have. Seems like an all-star, along with Kokusho, the Evening Star. You'll notice both are on my maybe list and have a 2x next to them, signifying I really want them in. Just a budget thing, though my mana curve is creeping higher and higher.

scheerlc8520 says... #15

Yeah that's a good call but I'm trying to keep my mana curve under an average cmc of 4 that's why I don't want too many 6 drops and the Tide Star just seems better plus it's the cheaper one. I'm going to try making a bolster/ambush deck with her like originally planned but they are probably more expensive. If it's still around the price of this deck when it done would you like me to send you the link

I'd recommend Path of Ancestry over the Crumbling Necropolis, it's a marginal upgrade, but a few extra scries throughout the game can prove helpful!

I'm glad you love the deck elliotmward97!! I've had her for many years and I love her dearly. I even love Marchesa enough to have a five-color "Secret Marchesa" deck: Special Snowflakes. My playgroup ranges from precons and upgraded precons to "powerful casual" and this deck seems to hang with their stronger decks very well. It's certainly not cEDH, nor would I really want it to be. One of the reasons I kept the Threaten subtheme going string from it's budget days.

As far as "very little" card draw...

Bloodtracker, Braids, Arisen Nightmare, Grim Haruspex, River Kelpie, Sage of Fables, Scorn-Blade Berserker, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Phyrexian Arena, Jeska's Will, Syphon Mind, and Skullclamp are all card draw. That's eleven.

Phyrexian Reclamation is big-time card advantage if my goons keep getting whacked, Viscera Seer is decent card selection when the engine is running, and the non-Treaten theft cards could even be viewed as card-advantage if you squint (looping Thalakos Deceiver and Puppeteer Clique and Keiga, the Tide Star, Zara, Renegade Recruiter getting lucky a few times, Grave Betrayal sticking, etc).

Actually seems above-average to me, elliotmward97.

Perhaps it's light in more pure Concentrate- and Tidings-style draw, but I like the creature-based draw that synergizes with Marchesa. Makes the deck feel like it has more character, and the ceiling is quite high when the engine is rolling. Lower floor, perhaps. I've thought about including more draw effects like Bident of Thassa, Reconnaissance Mission, and Coastal Piracy since the deck swings out so much, but I like where things are right now.

That’s great thanks for the clarification. Really liking the look of this deck . What do you think about the inclusion of the following cards ? Zevlor, Elturel Exile and The Beast, Deathless Prince

Optimator says... #21

Zevlor would be nice I guess. The Beast could be good

Danny Pink is an amazing draw engine here. Between all the +1+1 counter effects like Uncivil Unrest, Sage of Fables, Thran Vigil, and Dethrone, this draw adds up fast.

Thran Vigil is limited to your turn but with theft Marchesa especially, this is less of an issue. Most of your thievery and subsequent sacrifices will happen on your turn and this ensures your newly acquired toys are immediately protected instead of being vulnerable for a turn cycle.

I'm surprised you don't run Gray Merchant of Asphodel over Kokusho. I run both personally but I can end games fast with Gary (clones and Saw in Half) but Kokusho may end up on the chopping block soon for me because not only is he a slower finisher, he's more expensive to cast. Meta call for lots of "no etb" effects?

Feel free to check out my list for ideas. Upvotes on any of my decks are appreciated. Every Masochist Needs a Marchesa to Love Them
