Many magic the gathering players ask the question: What is the best deck possible? Its a question that keeps weaseling its way past your sensibilities, a dark thought that pesters the back of your minds as you play jank in modern, thinking yourself so clever. And today I seek to answer this question, to dive into a format filled with only salt and destroyed dreams. Unrestricted. Vintage.
I am not the first to attempt this, nor will I be the last. For when I collapse into insanity, lost in a world of
Ancestral Recall
and
Black Lotus
just as Happymaster19 was, another shall take my place.
So behold, and weep for the futility of unrestricted vintage, as you gase at my own personal Frankenstein, the horror that is:
Unrestricted Vintage
Doomsday
Manabase:
10 land is a bit high for unrestricted vintage, but due to SynergyBuild ruining the format with
Strip Mine
and
Collector Ouphe
, It is somewhat necessary. The deck still boasts 12 pieces of artifact mana, but it is not required for the deck to win.
Playing the deck
The deck mainly plays like a control deck, creating card advantage using
Ancestral Recall
, but with a combo finish in the form of
Thassa's Oracle
+
Demonic Consultation
.
Demonic Tutor
can feel expensive, but it can fetch
Black Lotus
to essentially be a
Lotus Petal
, and it can also fetch the multiple singleton cards in the deck like
Yawgmoth's Will
and
Flusterstorm
I haven't had a chance to test the deck, as unrestricted vintage is hardly a popular format. If you would like to play unrestricted vintage, I play using cockatrice, a free program that lets you play Wizard Poker online. If interested send me a message on discord, my username is Ethan_j#4953.
