It goes pretty fast, definitley one of my fastest aggro decks! I use to play modern merfolk years ago, so the fish are special to me.

Probably going to add: Strix Serenade and Flare of Denial removing the Aether Vial and Blue Sun's Zenith.

Vial was really nice in modern, but if you don't have it out early it doesn't have much value in EDH.

I found playing the counterspells while having Lullmage Mentor and Vodalian Hexcatcher is sweet for control.

• Your mana curve is missing 1 mana drops, which is a problem in your aggro deck.

• Merfolk decks usually play a lot of creatures, since the lords add up. Each creature you play also taps something with Merrow Reejerey, acting as a removal. 25 creatures is thus a low number.

• Play Tide Shapers - it's a one drop creature which enables Islandwalk on your creatures and disrupts enemy mana.

• Play Lord of Atlantis and Vodalian Hexcatcher if your budget allows it.
• Svyelun of Sea and Sky may be better than Tempest Djinn since it's a Merfolk.
• Silvergill Adept is still somewhat playable.
• Unsummon was made obsolete by Fading Hope
• Sinister Sabotage is too expensive. Replace it by some 1 mana spells such as Dismember, Spell Pierce, Mist-Cloaked Herald.
• AEther Tradewinds - Don't play this at all. Your only permanents are creatures anyway.
• Boomerang - Don't play this. If your target is not a land, there are better options. And the only time you want to target a land is turn 2, on which you want to play creatures.

Master of Winds -> Malevolent Hermit  ^Flip
cloudkin seer -> Voidmage Prodigy

As I see it, the islandwalk is just a little added bonus, if you decide not to include Spreading Seas or Reef Shaman or anything, giving you an extra push against {U}. Vodalian Hexcatcher is probably still the better choice, though. I wasn't sure if there were any special budget constraints.

Thanks for the suggestion, legendofa! I've been back and forth about whether to include Coralhelm Commander in this deck. The two lords you suggested wouldn't function too well in this deck as I have no way of converting the opponent's lands into islands, but I'm thinking a couple more Vodalian Hexcatchers might be a superior choice for that slot.

Icbrgr I've actually seen Merrow Reejerey used a lot before. As far as I've seen, I'd rather have my 3-drop slot filled with the playset of Svyelun of Sea and Sky, because it ends up winning more games for me, and Vodalian Hexcatcher has been really great as the 3rd lord in the deck.

That being said, Nikachu knows what he's talking about, and if it's working for you, it's definitely not a wrong choice. In fact, I've been trying to decide if I wanna put in a copy or two of Master of Waves, because it's good in this meta and also buffs Subtlety.

I'm always amazed at the creativity and quality of your deck builds. This one wasn't too difficult as the bulk of the list is pretty budget to begin with by Modern's standards. I came close to splashing green for some ramp and Hydroid Krasis but abandoned the idea once I gave the green Merfolk suite a closer look. It wouldn't have been a Merfolk deck in the way most people looking to play the archetype would enjoy playing. It would have just been a Simic pile with a Merfolk sub-theme. This deck really boils down to a few key cards that you HAVE to include no matter the budget. (Lord of Atlantis might not be one of them) Currently, Subtlety, Vodalian Hexcatcher, and Aether Vial definitely are. Otawara, Soaring City is also key since it can't be countered. The deck needs as much interaction and resiliency as possible in today's Modern Metagame.

I'm a big modern merfolk player, but some all time star Merfolk (that are pretty cheap) you could include are. - Silvergill Adept, Merfolk Trickster, Master of the Pearl Trident, Svyelun of Sea and Sky, & Vodalian Hexcatcher!
