Echoing Return

Sorcery

Return target creature card and all other cards with the same name as that card from your graveyard to your hand.

I think most Shadowborn Apostle decks run a few more than six copies. As it stands now, you need to draw into all six individually to make them more valuable than 6x Hired Poisoner or whatever. Your Ophiomancers and Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalias give you some sac fodder, but the Apostles can work just as well for that if you need them to.

The tough part about Apostles in Modern is that they take up a big chunk of your mana curve. A T1 Swamp, Apostle; T2 Swamp, 2x Apostle; T3 Swamp, 3x Apostle puts you in line to pull out a Demon on turn 4, which is where most of the Demons in this deck are sitting anyway. Right now, you're basically giving up the early game for a little extra mana in the mid game, adjusting for competitiveness.

So if you want to build around the Apostles, my suggestion is to go all in on Apostles, use fewer but bigger Demons (maybe something like Archfiend of Depravity, Pestilence Demon, or Reaper from the Abyss), and add some more 1-2 mana control/tempo options, filling out your removal and discard suite. Echoing Return also feels like some solid support.

Balaam__ I've gone back and forth on Echoing Return, and so far it just mostly acts like Raise Dead. But there is that sweet spot where it hits three. Haven't gotten four back with it yet.

I love this. Question, would Echoing Return be worthy to replace either Raise the Draugr or Return from Extinction? You’d need at least 2 identical creatures in the graveyard to justify it, but if it hits under the right conditions you get 4 cards back.

Crow_Umbra on Alesha and her Nazgul

Glad to see a new twist on Alesha. She was one of my first favorite commanders before I repurposed her deck into Isshin.

In reading your deck's description, I will caution against having Alesha be your primary reanimator effect. I think she works as best as an additional reanimator option, but not the one the deck relies on to function.

As a back up plan, I'd say check out Echoing Return as a way to get some Nazgul back to your hand, although back to battlefield would be most ideal. If it's in your budget, I'd also recommend checking out Preston, the Vanisher as an option to get some token copies of creatures you reanimate.

You could also potentially do some combo loops with Nazgul + Ratadrabik of Urborg + a sac outlet like Altar of Dementia. As long as the Nazgul is your Ring-Bearer when the Ring Tempts You, you can then sac it, and Ratadrabik will create token copies, which will let you start the cycle all over again.

I would suggest Echoing Return

No prob! Haha yeah TO prices are usually pretty behind. I see a bunch on TCGPlayer for $4.

Ever considered Orvar, the All-Form rather than Bruvac? Would be a bit of a different build but you could run cheap cantrips like Cerulean Wisps to make Petitioner copies.

Another strong commander option, though it'd be self-mill and a second color, is Araumi of the Dead Tide. Encore makes more petitioners depending on the # of opponents which is cool. Also Araumi opens the door for strong black cards like Echoing Return, Secret Salvage, Living Death, Patriarch's Bidding, Twilight's Call, and Haunting Voyage. Could close out the game by reanimating Lab Maniac using Araumi or Dread Return
