Crosstown Courier

Creature — Vedalken

Whenever Crosstown Courier deals combat damage to a player, that player puts that many cards from the top of his or her library into his or her graveyard.

Sphinx's Tutelage is simply better than Curse of the Bloody Tome for the same cost.

Rid yourself of Crosstown Courier, Thassa's Devourer (too expensive), and all of the spells that give you unblockable. Try some creatures that force your opponent to make choices. Salvage Drone or Invisible Stalker + Curiosity or Trepanation Blade. Another handy artifact would be Infiltration Lens.

Unquenchable Thirst is useless, as you don't have any Deserts in the deck.

Claustrophobia is too expensive. Try some bounce spells like Unsummon, Vapor Snag, even Voyage's End for some topdeck fixing.

Don't worry about doing so much damage, so you don't need Spectral Flight, just keep spells that keep milling. If you do need a backup win, use the cards in the graveyards to your advantage with Jace's Phantasm. Doubles as a hefty blocker as well.

Hope this helps speed it up a little!

DEDmaster: Thank you for the response. I didn't realize until you brought it to my attention that both Crosstown Courier and Monastery Swiftspear are both not standard. I will switch them out with something that is in standard.

I am trying to place a main focus of the deck - but I like being able to get the energy to use for different things, like with the Dynavolt Tower - as well as some other creature abilities and Thopters. So I guess those are my two main goals of the deck. Along with a little control, and being somewhat aggro with 1 2 and 3 drops. I am thinking about taking out the Metallic Mimic also. I am trying to fit in some other cards to see how they work out. One specifically being Built to Smash - and replacing the Crosstown Courier with Inventor's Apprentice. I am also considering adding two Aetherworks Marvel or either Decoction Module for additional energy. I could also add two Deadlock Trap for some extra control. And for one additional Creature I was considering Aethertorch Renegade again, for more energy. What are your thoughts ?

well what are you trying to play? cause its not standard. but I see what you are trying to play. Dynavolt Tower needs alot more to have a strong effect to your deck. I would try to play less characters and more instants and sorceries. Im not sure if you are trying to put out more thopters or gain more energy. But the tower is to strong to not go with that play. you have alot of really good play options in this deck. But it needs to focus down a little more.

Crosstown Courier one its not standard. But if that play is something that you like. Try Minister of Inquiries he is kind easy to remove. but if you play him on turn one then you could turn over the game with some massive cuts. this meta is all about the big booms. yeah there is alot of low attack but I've seen and played alot of upsets in this meta. playing this card could slow them down so you can swing off a big play faster. as far as Monastery Swiftspear there isnt a whole lot that is that good. but if you switch the slots Stormchaser Mage is pretty sweet to play as well. not as fast but still can do alot in a meta where everyones huge game is on turn 4-6. Take into Custody and Ice Over a not super good with cards like Aethersphere Harvester and Heart of Kiran over running the meta. so build a side deck that has answers for whats big in play. thats all i have hope it helps. good games.

blackice1399 your inputs have been awesome! First, thank you for recommending Grindclock, it is perfect for the deck. Second, I gave it some thought and I'll take out one Slip Through Space and increase one more Tome Scour, so it won't affect my mana curve.

Regarding the unblockable stuff, it is only meant to use with the cipher of Paranoid Delusions and Trepanation Blade. I think focusing on mill is the best here and the only think I have to for damage is Consuming Aberration, which is more to scare then necessarily cause damage.

I just didn't understand why Crosstown Courier can't be effective if combined with an unblockable spell and Trepanation Blade, I think it could be a heck of a mill, wouldn't you think?

Thank you again for your help!

Hey blackice1399 thanks for the advice. But Grindstone and Jace's Phantasm are bit too high for me and; also I already have two Altar of the Brood in the deck. About Mind Sculpt I had already given some thought and decided not to put in the deck because I already have too many spells for that, I guess what I lack the most are creatures.

Wall of Frost is a good creature, but it isn't quite suit for the deck since it doesn't contribute directly for its synergy. Nevertheless, creaturewise, I thought of Siren of the Silent Song and Crosstown Courier, since both could be good with any unblockable spell. What you think?

Have you considered adding Sphinx's Tutelage ? I use it in one of my drawing/milling decks and it can really be a troublemaker at times.

One of my personal favourite combinations is Trepanation Blade attached to Crosstown Courier. Any attack that lands has the potential to be absolutely devastating with a nasty stacked combo effect

I'm a bit confused as to how this is a mill deck. I didn't scour your main from top to bottom so maybe I missed a few, but it looks like you only have seven cards that actually do any milling; you're regularly going to go a game without drawing more than one or two of them, if any at all.

Now that's all well and good if it doesn't bother you, but if you're actually looking to make a true mill deck you're going to need to develop that as a much more concentrated focus within the build. Some straightforward, budget cards that come to mind include Hedron Crab, Thought Scour, Mind Sculpt, Curse of the Bloody Tome, Crosstown Courier, Jace's Phantasm, Belltower Sphinx, Tome Scour, and Trepanation Blade. Also Sands of Delirium is going to serve you much more faithfully than Millstone in multiplayer, thanks to all the mana you can accumulate.

Beyond that, some general thoughts: I count six enchantment destroys overlapping with four artifact destroys. You know your meta better than I do but I'd sideboard most if not all of those. Given your defender subtheme I'd also consider Fog Bank and Fortified Rampart, both very budget walls, but perhaps more importantly Perimeter Captain and Stalwart Shield-Bearers, both of whom would help you take advantage of the prevalence of defenders in the deck.

I'm also fairly sure you've got a modern legal deck here; I'd list it as such.

Maybe what you need is a few Tome Scours. These make any mill deck better. And, if you wanted more creatures like Crosstown Courier, then I suggest Reef Pirates.
