well I recently realized that Crown of Convergence does not work. I do not have the option of putting the cards on top, so a specific number of uses will not result in Gaea's Blessing being on the bottom of my library. this is a simple fix, as I stated the problem lies in the fact that the card cannot be returned to the top of the library. I just need an ability that lets me see the top card of my library and put it on the top or bottom of my library, and that is exactly what scrying lets me do. I need to replace the crown with a card that lets me scry as many times as I want, as doing this will guarantee that after x scries, I will have seen the blessing, and once I see the blessing I just put it to the bottom of my library, and put every other card I scry back on top. this results in the ability to say "after x scries, I guarantee that Gaea's Blessing will be on the bottom of my library." problem solved.

General Maintenance

A couple minor adds: picked up a Slayers' Stronghold, a Sunforger, nothing too major. Also, a friend recently built Karador EDH, so I added the graveyard hate that is necessary to combat those types of decks in the form of Relic of Progenitus, Grafdigger's Cage, Honor the Fallen, and Rest in Peace.

PPTQ - August 21st, 2016 / 2-3 and 22nd place

Second PPTQ of the season, I still have to improve my gaming, I’m making mistakes that lead me to lose some games. **_Match 1 vs Nahiri Control (1- 2) _** The first game was an easy win to me; I won by turn 5 with plenty of lives on my score. However game two and three were bad for me. I mulligan to 6 both games and I still had land trouble that was the main reason for this match loss specially on game 3 where I had many 1 drop spells but I was only able to cast 1 spell per turn. **_Match 2 vs R/G Eldritch Elves Company (0- 2)_** OMFG this was such a massacre on both games. Game one I was able to put him on 14 by my turn 2 but playing against a deck like this (I don’t even knew this existed until I saw it) His plays were, T1, Mystic Elves, T2, discard two green creatures to cast Allosaurus Rider, T3 sacrifice Allosaurus + Eldritch Evolution into Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. After that It was game over to me. For game two he put Leyline of Sanctity over his hand at the beginning of the game which was game over for me given that I didn’t side in Wear/Tear as I was not expecting that move. I keep up playing beside the Leyline just to see what else his deck could do (besides winning the match) **_Match 3 vs Abzan Midrange (2-0) _** Finnaly I was able to catch a break, after losing by my own mistakes and getting massacred, I face an “easy” match with Abzan Company, It also helped me thi guy had to mulligan both games however I got nice hands, both games were over by turn 4 and 5. **_Match 4 vs Melira Company (1- 2) _** My worst match every single time. I was able to put him on 10 by turn 2 but after that he began to win lives with Kitchen Finks, then he collected to combo. For game two he mulligan to 6 and I got a fast one drop hand which made him quit the game to go for game 3. For game 3 we both played by the book, waiting to response what the other did. I put my Grafdigger’s cage on the battlefield but he draw an Archangel of Tune and I didn’t had an answer for it so it was basically game over, I was just hoping to draw a Path to Exile to get rid of the Angel but never happened. **_Match 5 vs U/B Milling (2- 0) _** So this was almost a bye for me. Especially on game one with me on the play. Second game was not much different except he milled around half my deck.

Overdue Update

So, this Friday is once again Pauper night. Here's hoping we get a large crowd! I have made a couple of fundimental changes. There are many decks that are either mana light or require enchantment ramp or fixing on their mana base. Therefore, because I hate fun, I placed two Icequake and three Choking Sands in the SB. I'd go 1-4, but I sadly seem to only own three sands. I've had to move one Scent of Nightshade over bc of this. I really like having the option of removing a t2-3 zombie fish, and I don't like having to count on getting on of two Rend Flesh or one nightshade, but hey, it's life.

I'm also trying to pilot a pair of Pharika's Cure in place of two Disfigure. The incidental lifegain can be really relevant, although if I am on the draw, that t1 Delver of Secrets  Flip, if it flips is going to net one damage, even if I have 2 mana removal, of which my deck runs a plethora. Blargh. It's a real debate in my head. If I had foil Dead Weight, it wouldn't really be a debate. I like the idea of dedicating a one mana delver removal, that can also be relevant late game as an added devotion that reduces the size of a fish, or other large creature. I don't know that anyone will run Wretched Gryff, but the thought is pretty terrifying. The thing is pretty big, draws two cards, and dodges those kinds of conventional removal.

I also went back and forth about the count of Corrupt vs Tendrils of Corruption. Honestly, while the idea of blasting an opponent with corrupt is sexy, and it usually ends the night for most opponents, it is more often than not used to remove a fish or other large creature mid game than as lethal damage late game.

As far as draw spells are relevant, I'm pretty keen on Succumb to Temptation. I very, very rarely finish anyone with Sign in Blood. It's so rare, I really like the idea of holding open mana to either threaten or have removal on an opponent's turn, rather than tapping out on mine for something like sign. Read the Bones needs to stay a 4-of, as it is way too good for card selection, and I run absolutely no shuffle effects, like Evolving Wilds or exploration map.

I'm keeping Oubliette as a three-of. It's just too good not to, as it adds three devotion even if it removes a pretty innocuous creature. I don't care which removal hits which creature, as, really, everything's gotta die, anyway. WIsh it had flash, but the mechanic didn't exist in Arabian Nights, and they're never reprinting such an off-color card every again. Also keeping Snuff Out as a two-of. Several people run hasty creatures, or othewise really dangerous creatures that need immediate removal. Hell, seeing an Expedite thrown on a Nivix Cyclops is just not cool with me. The 'clops gotta go.

Won an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth at a local event, so I'm adding that plus two Dismember.

Less Aggro, More Control

Mclovin8617, 8 years ago

Was checking out RUG Modern and Legacy decks. Decided to add more control, although I know due to limitation of multiples it won't be nearly as control as Modern/Legacy builds. More big beaters will try to make up for counterspells. Basically this deck used to be RG splashing U, now it's more evened out. Suggestions welcome.

Splitting the deck

Smokus_Krakus, 8 years ago

I'm going to make another deck, based of creatures because I think that has its own set of advantages. But I still think this still is good and so I will continue to work on it a bit but I'm going to start of a creature deck variant which will use the same mana generation. Here's the link deck:Eldrazi Pauper Elves
