I'm debating taking the Unholy Citadel out. It's nice to have but I may need more land.
acuda2113, 11 years ago
Removed a few of the cards, and got to finally play the deck. It ran fine with only 34 lands and it was fun to play. This deck definitely has a chance to blow up quick, and the general is able to gobble up a few guys without losing the whole board presence. A fun deck to build on a budget for sure.

I added Necropotence to my sideboard just for fun.

Alright, so WNM isn't as serious as FNM, but it's still satisfying to place a bit better in tourneys. I got a promo Sheoldred, Whispering One for winning first. Not a great prize, but my deck performed well.
Round 1 --- Izzet Control. 2-0 win.
I actually helped my friend build this one, but he was always destroyed by Thoughtseize stealing his Counterflux, which were his best cards against me (suprisingly). I Elspeth'd him to death game one, and Aetherling'd him to death game two. Not very difficult here.
Round 2 --- Boros Burn. 2-1 Win.
Same dude from my FNM report on why-play-three-colors-anymore. I had better spot removal this time, and killed his Mutavault and Ash Zealot efficiently. I barely scraped by game one, keeping an Elspeth, Sun's Shampion unopposed until I used her -7 and swung in with 9 flying 3/3's. After I managed to land a Blood Baron of Vizkopa game two, it didn't take much to win.
Round 3 --- Selesnya Aggro. 2-0 win.
A deck that I let my friend borrow, sorry-im-bad-with-names, I was able to handily answer every threat with black removal, and tempo kept him behind about three turns in game two with my Cyclonic Rift into Azorius Charm into two Supreme Verdict in a row, with some scattered Far / Away. That deck can't deal with Elspeth, Sun's Champion at all, even when he threw 3x Mistcutter Hydra at me in game 2.

Land change, now that I think about it...
Heretix_Aevum, 11 years ago
Changed from 3 to 4 Dragonskull Summits, from 3 to 4 Graven Cairns and from 4 to 2 Blood Crypts, but I'm still wanting to replace the blood crypts with something less costly... Or is 8 non standard enough and I should just drop the Blood Crypts?
Playtest Round 1

So this deck did amazingly well tonight. It went 3-0 against a GW token (saporling) deck that has previously been the bane of my existence. The token deck was just too slow to get started.
It also went 1-2 against an Izzet control deck (ironically the deck my brother built when I got distracted by this one). They were both very quick, but because I hadn't built a sideboard yet I didn't really have an answer for his creatures coming in, I simply didn't get the bare-bones Electrickery + Inflame combo often enough. A known weakness with playing creature less. I'll need to add some sideboard stuff to deal with that.
All in all I'm very happy though.

Actually bought this deck! Super fun to play with, but not fun to play against I have heard. Comments and suggestions are welcome, but keep in mind I have not acquired all the cards for it yet. :D

Woooo. The Untap Factory monopolizes the board again!a.k.a. I won.
I had to deal with a mono-blue control deck and a Doran, the Siege Tower voltron.
Dear god did I misplay a lot, its been a while since I played though. I think I had a total of 5 or 6 Biovisionary come into play under my control, but they kept getting countered, killed, or displaced by things like Switcheroo. I eventually just started playing cards and played Fatestitcher, was gunna copy it but it was countered so I just unearthed it, still copied it, put Swiftfoot boots on the copy and gave it haste, Illusionist's Bracers on one, infinite mana, Shapesharer as a copy of Fatesticher played Birthing Pod sac'd the Shapesharer to get Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and a bajilion Fatestichers.
Your fate has been stiched... to my butt.

Cut the artifact lands and replaced them with snow lands (because I can). We have enough artifacts to turn on Mox Opal most of the time, and we don't need artifact lands to do it. The danger of getting blown out by artifact destruction (red decks) is too great to run artifact lands. We aren't a fast deck trying to explode out of the gates, so it's fine if we need to wait a few turns to use Mox Opal. I also added Sun Titan since he can recur just about anything and everything, and Elixir of Immortality to help fight graveyard hate.
Small tuning

Purphoros worked awesome, but it was a bit 'win-more'. The only real damage he does is with Assemble the Legion and Obzedat, Ghost Council, and usually these win anyways. Also, R devotion is quite low in this deck.
Mind Rot was fine, but not being able to choose what goes wasn't really worth it.
Spike Jester and Ash Zealot will hopefully strengthen this deck's matchup vs aggro, adding in a little more speed plays. I'm considering Pack Rat for the same reason. Deathrite Shaman was also added to the Maybeboard, to gain some use of the cards that are discarded. The lack of G makes this a questionable one though.
