Cream of the Crop

Enchantment

Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may look at the top X cards of your library, where X is that creature's power. If you do, put one of those cards on top of your library and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

Last Laugh I do think Cream of the Crop is a good card for this deck. But I’m a gambling man.

It was a fun mono green deck that also ran Devoted Druid and Quillspike for an infinitely big vanilla creature with no evasion. Cream of the Crop was my card selection. I honestly can't remember what all was in the deck but it was a lot of fun.

Glad your playtest was fun.

I had the same experience piloting Kenessos. One of our players said, that „even though you floaded the board hard and needed quite some time (Seedborn Muse, Cream of the Crop and Biomancer's Familiar out), it was fun to see this deck go off“.

Even though i like Temples flavour, i seapped it pretty quickly, since it was quite hard to get it going. That was the time other cheat effects came in…

Have fun piloting it. Big Blue Datties ftw!

Like you list. You should definitely try Season of Growth. It synergizes extremly well when Kenessos ability hits. Almost like a mini budget Cream of the Crop. The creature list looks solid.

You have more Top-Deck manipulation (Library, Rack, Top) which are unfortunately uneffordable atm, but i would assume, they rock this deck :o)

Have you playtested it yet?

A few topdeck shenanigans recommendations, to make the most of your manifest sources.

First, we give Sensei's Divining Top an honorable mention. It's just great.

Augur of Autumn lets you expand your hand by giving you access to lands and creatures on your topdeck, though it might be a bit of a struggle for you to activate Coven since most of your creatures are Power 2 and 3.

Cream of the Crop is just fantastic, and works great with all your 2 Power Morphs.

Then there's good ol' Scroll Rack; an OG whose usefulness is hard to overstate in a freecasting/topdeck build like this.

You could also take a look at Wickerwing Effigy. Could be very interesting in a Kadena deck...

After play-testing 10 games with this against some of my own decks, here's what I found:

  • In 6 out of 10 games, I could only play lands and cast Mayael for the first 6 turns, after which I could start using her ability. In 2 out of 10 games, I could also cast a ramp spell and play one more land (so I could use her ability by turn 5). In the two remaining games, it took longer to utilize Mayael (7 and 8 turns) and/OR hard-cast creatures. In my meta, this is a bit problematic as it is just too slow. I understand you don't want to include mana-weenies, because they mess up the results of Mayael's ability, but maybe you could consider some more ramping options. Some more mana-rocks maybe? Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone and Chromatic Lantern come to mind.
  • Mayael is quite vulnerable. In the games I tested, she was dispatched multiple times with ease. Since you're relying on her for most of your strategy, maybe include some more protection like Swiftfoot Boots, Boros Charm, Flawless Maneuver, Vigor, Asceticism or Archetype of Endurance.
  • The speed of your deck could also be improved by adding a few haste enablers; maybe stuff like Rhythm of the Wild or Fervor?
  • Last but not least, with so many nice high-cost beaters in your deck you could also greatly benefit from the use of cards like Cream of the Crop, Lurking Predators and especially Kodama of the East Tree.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck with your brew.

I did some more digging around green cards and here are some more cards that may work in the deck:

Cream of the Crop is a great way to constantly get cards in a passive manner.

Season of Growth another way to help the flow towards win conditions and combos.

Sylvan Anthem little buff and again a helping hand with setting up combos

Book of Rass a possible infinite draw card which will help you draw out the behemoth or other such cards to win.

Aetherflux Reservoir another conditional win combo, I personally would put this as a maybe but I thought I would suggest it anyways

Triumph of the Hordes a disgusting way to win by all accounts. But hey, a win is a win
