Kenessos N Kiddos: The King of Killer Krakens

Commander / EDH GU (Simic) Kraken Leviathan Scry

Come for the alliteration, stay for the upvote and some fun Sea Monster shenanigans!

Green loves to play big creatures and blue loves to.... play big creatures? Am I reading this right? Finally a new Simic commander that looks fun to build around in Kenessos, Priest of Thassa, someone who isn't just about ramp and card draw. Kenessos provides a fun gameplan centered around scrying and cheating out big fatties. And who doesn't love casting giant creatures for free? As always, my playgroup avoids infinite combos, and I really love feedback of any kind!

This deck is Scry heavy, so I chose to focus on that instead of including multiple other instances of cheating out cards like Elvish Piper or Quicksilver Amulet Instead we have cheap tools like Sensei's Divining Top, Mirri's Guile, Sylvan Library, Scroll Rack, In Search Of Greatness, Cream of the Crop and more that will let us scry regularly, and in some cases put cards from our hand back on top of the library.

To protect our our lil Kraken King we have pieces like Lightning Greaves and a decent number of counterspells.

Training Grounds and Biomancer's Familiar help to reduce Kenessos's ability cost, they also help with some other cards like Thassa, God of the Sea or Thrasios, Triton Hero.

The ramp is limited to about 5 cards since we have so much topdeck manipulation, I might not even need that much but I'll have to playtest more to see.

For the Sea Beasties themselves, narrowing down the list was tricky, but this is what I ended up with. If you see any I'm missing or that might work better here, let me know!

This deck is a blast to play, most fun deck I have built in a while. One of our pod players had to cancel so it was 3 1v1 games. Won one, lost two, didn't mind cause the deck was so fun to pilot. I was curious to see if the amount of scry type cards I have was excessive, but it was not. This deck starts to get very clunky if your top deck manipulation gets continually removed. Always happy to draw cards like Mirri's Guile. Quest for Ula's temple is probably a trap card, it's a lot harder to get it to go off than I expected, but it's on theme so I'll give it a few more games.

The really interesting thing was that I did not have enough islands. Charix, Scourge of Fleets, and a few others care about the amount of islands I have, and often I would only have 3-4 on the board at most. (That's probably also due to 1v1 games going quicker) So I swapped out some dual lands to add more, but I still feel I don't have enough islands. But I need to keep access to green easy so I can ramp early, so we'll see. Also took Growth Spiral out for Into the North.
