Maybeboard

Classic white soldier tribal deck for casual play.

The deck is cheap, simple, easy too play and performs quite well (unless you face a black deck with a lot of mass removal of course).

How to play:
Swarm the battlefield with cheap creatures and increase their strength with Cenn's Tactician, Collective Effort, Spear of Heliod and Obelisk of Urd.
Captain of the Watch is a great soldier lord and Preeminent Captain can bring her into play for free early.
Collective Effort removes creatures that cannot be dealt with otherwise and pumps the team at the same time.
Dusk / Dawn can act as an one-sided board sweep and give us card advantage late in the game, since many of our creatures have power two or less.

Nice deck! Here's some suggestions. I know you have budget and rarity restrictions, so I tried to keep them low cheap: Ballyrush Banneret, Cenn's Tactician, Timely Reinforcements, Veteran's Armaments, Archetype of Courage, Aegis of the Gods, Champion of the Parish, Mentor of the Meek, Odric, Master Tactician, and Porcelain Legionnaire.

Thank you for the suggestions AwesomeName!

I'm not very familiar with the older sets since I started playing only a year ago. These Morningtide cards look very fun, especially Veteran's Armaments, I will definitely give it a try.

No Field Marshal? You sure?

Yes, I passed on Field Marshal, because
- almost half of my creatures have first strike anyway
- on his own, he is only a three-mana Bear Cub
- Soldier is a common creature type in casual Modern decks, I don't want him to pump my opponents Loxodon Smiter

I think one of the best things about Field Marshal is that he gives first strike to your tokens as well. But I think yours is a pretty fair assessment -- Your deck looks more controlley than I'm used to soldiers being and I kinda like it. The only other things I might suggest are Oblivion Ring instead of Stasis Snare. It's essentially the same thing but it works on non-land permanents instead of creatures. It even works on your own permanents if for whatever reason you need it to.

Also, check out Stoneforge Masterwork. I find it to be slightly more effective than veteran armaments because the buff stays on your creatures while out of combat and it isn't dependent on the number of creatures attacking. (Although the sheer variability of the veteran armaments sometimes throws my opponent off and gives me an advantage).

The key to your deck seems to be the Preeminent Captains. Personally, I have a hard time keeping them alive and useful because they need to be attacking every time. Maybe a full set of Brave the Elements would help prolong them? I know at least for me, Bladed Pinions makes them a little harder to block (although the first strike is kind of lost on them). If they get removed, I imagine your deck is drastically slowed down.

Anyway, I really like the deck, it's grown on me quite a bit lol. Especially the Collective Effort which I might have to find a way to squeeze into my own soldier deck.
