My (formerly) budget Pirate-based aggro list from War of the Spark Standard moves to the new Pioneer format.

We now have the benefit of additional tribal effects, if we want them, enhanced hand disruption and removal, and Metallic Mimic. The sideboard has also benefited heavily from the widened card pool.

Because they are not very strong in the early game, I have pulled one copy each of Rigging Runner and Dire Fleet Daredevil to make room for a pair of Metallic Mimics. I actually have not played any Pioneer so I am not sure what is best here. I don’t know if the Mimic advances our kill clock enough to justify running even any number of it, but it seems like it might be worth looking into. The full set of Daredevil seems high because at four, we will have to cast one early with no trigger targets pretty often (same deal with the Rigging Runner) — while the Mimic is quite a bit stronger than either in the early game (provided it sticks around long enough for us to follow it up with other Pirates). It might even be correct to go to three or four copies of the Mimic if it performs well enough. An extra point of power and toughness really enhances a lot of these Pirates.
