Sideboard

In the right circumstances this list acts as aggro, but usually modern sports quite fast decks in general, so it more likely plays out in the realm of midrange decks. Boardstate builds up over time and the lethal push comes from Intangible Virtue and Gideon, through 1/1 Faerie Rogues and 1/1 Spirits flying army. The sisters keep me in good health for all the life taxing effects, while Suture Priest also guarantees 1 face damage for every blocker my opponent summons.

The sheer amount of cheap ass destruction this deck holds on top of the token focus is so ridiculous, that you can often keep starting hands with 1 land and still hold the offensive stance. Hexproof and counter spells are the biggest downfall I've stumbled upon, but there isn't much I can do about those. So destruction and buffed weenies is what we focus on doing!

Everything in this deck is to protect or serve the following:

Sideboard:

  • Quest for the Gravelord is against boardwipes and such.
  • Rest in Peace is a must against Dredge, Delve, Flashback, Living End etc. So many different archetypes.
  • Stony Silence works against Affinity and alot of combo decks.
  • Surgical Extraction is good against a multitude of decks that revolve around specific cards to go off of, while also giving complete insight in to their decks, if the first game left some questions unanswered. I justify the 3 copies with it's great synergy with the 7 copies of Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize. You can pull out target removal for these without losing anything, but gaining another removal mechanic for each copy of fetch/dual lands, combo pieces etc..
  • Timely Reinforcements is for when I get out run. Not a fan of this in main.

This sideboard allows such a spectrum of different approaches to the deck, on top of sporting targeted counters against specific archetypes, but like every SB in the world, it under constant changes and refining.

Criticise and suggest at will. I believe this could be pushed to tier 2, even tier 1.5 with proper tweaking and skill. And also by the vague results of others with somewhat similar builds. I must admit though, I haven't looked too much into the last 2 sets. Changes might be coming.
