Sideboard

Here's my Mardu Reanimator deck that I'm planning on bringing to the Store Championship.

The goal is relatively simple: Get the Gearhulks into the graveyard and bring them back with Refurbish, Liliana or God-Pharaoh's Gift. Most of the deck follows the traditional Mardu Reanimator strategy, but there are some slight changes due to what is currently in Standard and the overall meta.

Please feel free to comment on the deck (criticism is welcome) and upvote if it caught your interest!

Sideboard Choices:

  • Hour of Devastation/Fumigate/Settle the Wreckage: Boardwipes to to deal with Temur/Sultai Energy/Ramunap Red
  • Lost Legacy: To deal with Game 2 threats
  • Kambal: Helps against control matchups
  • Authority of the Consuls: Aggro decks in general
  • Chandra/Gideon/Hautli: Sideboard switch vs expected graveyard hate/Lost Legacy/Dispossess targeting (Literally sided out Liliana and Refurbish to blank out a few opponent's sideboard)
  • Hour of Revelation: Specifically for token strategies/artifacts/go wide strategies

Changelog (as of 12/8/2017):

Removed from Main and Side:

  • 4 Aether Hub (no energy producers and the energy was usually unnecessary)
  • 1 Sweltering Suns (we're making room for other removal)
  • 1 Razaketh (while this definitely hurts my heart, we rarely saw him and he ended up being either not coming in enough time to assist or he was just a "win more" card)
  • 2 Lost Legacy (we swapped this out for 2 Gideon's Intervention since it effectively does the same job of making sure something can't be cast, while making the called card a dead card in hand as well as fading out cards like a resolved Hazoret or Bristling Hydra)

Moved to the Sideboard:

  • 1 Chandra, Torch of Defiance (we don't have to see Chandra game 1, but having the option to swap in two helps alot when it comes to changing the deck to avoid sideboard changes)
  • 1 Demon of Dark Schemes (it's nice to have in certain matchups to clear a wide board and earns a spot in the sideboard, but we don't have enough energy production to make him useful in any other situation)

Added to the main deck:

  • 2 Hostile Deserts (a 3/4 body on demand for 2 generic mana and exiling a land that we probably discarded? Great way to make use of any excess lands in the graveyard!)
  • 2 Field of Ruin (blows up Search for Azcanta, potential mana screw for our opponent and later becomes fodder for the Hostile Deserts)
  • 1 Key to the City (this deck benefits from an early loot mechanic as well as a way to give our Gearhulks evasion)
  • 2 Angel of Invention (this starts to bring us into the realm of GPG decks, but still gives us alot to work with when you consider the flying, lifelink, board buff and potential blockers she creates)
  • 2 Settle the Wreckage (having a stronger, instant speed boardwipe certainly helps)

Updates Add

Since Thursday Night Magic didn't fire off last night, I used that time to practice with the people who did show up.

Results: -RB Aggro (2-1): Managed to pull the game back in Game 1from 5 life. I was mana screwed Game 2 and just couldn't get to answers, but I easily handled the deck Game 3 (Authority of the Consuls and Gideon of the Trials from the sideboard were HUGE)

-U/B Control (0-1): We only had a chance to play one game due to the store closing for the night, but the deck did struggle once Scarab God resolved (since S.G. LOVES the creatures that we dump into the graveyard. Search for Azcanta was also another issue, since we don't carry any removal for it...yet...
