Shapeshifter's Marrow

Enchantment

At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, that player reveals the top card of his or her library. If it's a creature card, the player puts the card into his or her graveyard and Shapeshifter's Marrow becomes a copy of that card. (If it does, it loses this ability.)

Hmm... while I wouldn't personally take that line of play (playing the same cards my opponent is just after they play them seems like just spending the game behind on everything), if you wanted to do it for a casual style deck I'd think about removing...

Stolen Identity: The idea of getting multiple copies of a card is good, but the fact that you have to be able to hit your opponent to get that benefit after the first time is rough for this deck, since you only get flying if they have flying and so on. Anything short of landwalk or plain old unblockable just won't cut it, and those aren't super common.

Echo Mage: While the idea of copying instants is cool, you have to spend a total of 9 mana to copy even one spell (3 to cast, 2 to level up, 2 to level up again, and 2 to use ability). Anyone using creature removal is just going to pop him before he comes online, and what else would you really want to copy just once a turn anyways?

Duplicant: Duplicant wouldn't be bad if it didn't cost 6 mana to cast As it stands though it is one time creature removal that copies base power and toughness and creature type. You don't even get the creature's buffs or abilities.

Shapeshifter's Marrow: Getting to peek at your opponent's cards isn't bad, but you must copy the first creature it hits, meaning you might get something cool, or you might have just paid 4 mana for an Elvish Mystic, and in Modern the latter is much more likely.

Have you thought about Shapeshifter's Marrow?

Hi, man. How about this?

Darksteel Mutation // Imprisoned in the Moon - it can stop some kind of generals.

And also copy options:

Copy Artifact // Copy Enchantment // Followed Footsteps // Mimic Vat // Sculpting Steel // Shapeshifter's Marrow

Gift of Immortality // Shielded by Faith for Hanna protection

Hey, so. Altogether I've not been playing Magic incredibly long, and I'm very consistently surprised whenever I look up old sets because there are reams of cards I've never seen before. I've got a few cards which gave me the idea for building a deck with a theme of interacting with/playing the top card of my library.

I'm in a casual playgroup where anything "not completely dickish" goes, so no suggestions are completely off the table. Unfortunately "top card of your library" is a bit of an ambiguous thing to look up and it's hard to find exactly what I'm seeking amongst all the millions of milling and skrying cards that the search pulls up.

Here are some cards that fit the theme:

Oracle of Mul Daya, Melek, Izzet Paragon, Skill Borrower, . Unfortunately a number of these cards sort of demand you build the deck around how they work (such as including a hefty amount of Instant/Sorcery cards for Malek), so I probably won't be including all of them, as fun as that sounds to me. I like the Oracle's extra land drop because I can then use an abundance of Karoo lands to help abuse my Skry lands more.

Brainstorm and Telling Time, or otherwise the likes of Autumnal Gloom  Flip for manipulation. This could set up for Clash or Miracle if I end up spinning it those ways. So too could Spin into Myth (and Shapeshifter's Marrow).

Nightveil Specter and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver might also be fun.

Intet, the Dreamer, Conundrum Sphinx, Mise. These are the cards that make the deck fun, and the likes of which I'm most interested in finding more, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that Manifest does interact with the top of your library but otherwise it's sort of incongruous with how this deck seems to work so far. That one self-milling insect guy whose name I can't remember that recently came back is also a thing, but I prefer the manipulation to be optional.

I'd appreciate any help you could give, even if it's just one card that might only be sort of useful. Thanks in advance!

This is incorrect. The above statement does apply to multiple replacement effects attempting to modify the same object:

615.1. If two or more replacement and/or prevention effects are attempting to modify the way an event affects an object or player, the affected objects controller (or its owner if it has no controller) or the affected player chooses one to apply, following the steps listed below. If two or more players have to make these choices at the same time, choices are made in APNAP order (see rule 101.4).

But not for triggered abilities:

603.3b If multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, each player, in APNAP order, puts triggered abilities he or she controls on the stack in any order he or she chooses. (See rule 101.4.) Then the game once again checks for and resolves state-based actions until none are performed, then abilities that triggered during this process go on the stack. This process repeats until no new state-based actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then the appropriate player gets priority.

Since you control both the triggers from Shapeshifter's Marrow and Curse of the Bloody Tome, you decide in what order they resolve, not the opponent because you control both the cards from which the triggers were sourced.

If you cast Shapeshifter's Marrow and an opponent has been enchanted with Curse of the Bloody Tome that opponent may choose which effect goes on the stack first (and thus which effect will resolve first).
