Topdeck of the century.

Hey, so. Altogether I've not been playing Magic incredibly long, and I'm very consistently surprised whenever I look up old sets because there are reams of cards I've never seen before. I've got a few cards which gave me the idea for building a deck with a theme of interacting with/playing the top card of my library.

I'm in a casual playgroup where anything "not completely dickish" goes, so no suggestions are completely off the table. Unfortunately "top card of your library" is a bit of an ambiguous thing to look up and it's hard to find exactly what I'm seeking amongst all the millions of milling and skrying cards that the search pulls up.

Here are some cards that fit the theme:

Oracle of Mul Daya, Melek, Izzet Paragon, Skill Borrower, . Unfortunately a number of these cards sort of demand you build the deck around how they work (such as including a hefty amount of Instant/Sorcery cards for Malek), so I probably won't be including all of them, as fun as that sounds to me. I like the Oracle's extra land drop because I can then use an abundance of Karoo lands to help abuse my Skry lands more.

Brainstorm and Telling Time, or otherwise the likes of Autumnal Gloom  Flip for manipulation. This could set up for Clash or Miracle if I end up spinning it those ways. So too could Spin into Myth (and Shapeshifter's Marrow).

Nightveil Specter and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver might also be fun.

Intet, the Dreamer, Conundrum Sphinx, Mise. These are the cards that make the deck fun, and the likes of which I'm most interested in finding more, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that Manifest does interact with the top of your library but otherwise it's sort of incongruous with how this deck seems to work so far. That one self-milling insect guy whose name I can't remember that recently came back is also a thing, but I prefer the manipulation to be optional.

I'd appreciate any help you could give, even if it's just one card that might only be sort of useful. Thanks in advance!

For some reason the linked word wasn't coming through proper, sorry.

Consider Miracle cards from Inistrad.

There's Modern Lantern Lock. You basically just control whatever they draw by looking at their top card and if it can help them mill it.

I also made a shaman deck (Dragon Callers) where you reveal the top card with Mul Daya Channelers and then can use it with Bloodline Shaman and Oracle of Mul Daya to always trigger kingship Leaf-Crowned Elder.

I was initially worried there wouldn't be enough cards to make a decently themed Commander deck here, but there's an abundance after all - I'm actually really glad with how the deck is shaping up so far!

I almost completely missed Psychic Network, what a tragedy that'd've been!

Thanks for all the help, peeps.

Keep in mind Psychic Network is an Un-Card, so if your playgroup is very casual and cool with it, definitely do it. Otherwise it's technically not legal in edh.

Yeah, we're good. I've got Mise in there as well. I've also got a good number of cards and suggestions which I could substitute in, in case anybody should have a problem with those two, but I don't think they should do.

Thanks again. =3

You can run a Lantern of Insight and Codex Shredder combo on yourself :3

I have a deck based around a bunch of combos which could be relevant here. One of the combos allows you to make all of your plains produce 2 mana of any color; the second allows you to stack your deck in an order of your choosing. You could alter this to make it so after these combos you top deck Skill Borrower, followed by Door to Nothingness. Since your plains produce all five colors you can immediately activate the ability.

Check out the original here: White ramp is the BEST ramp (SUPER CASUAL)

Future Sight and Courser of Kruphix, surprised no one mentioned them yet.

Also Abbot of Keral Keep and Commune with Lava and the likes are sometimes risky, but worth it if you can use the card(s).

I did link above to the card search for "play with the top of your library revealed", so was aware of and have included Future Sight and the Courser already. My formatting was pretty atrocious though, so no worries. =P

40fy, thanks kind of hilarious, but is a little more focused on the one combo than I'd like. I think I'll save your post for reference later in another deck when I've got most of these cards.

Thanks everybody, these suggestions have been really great, I'm super pleased with how the deck has come together. =)
