The whole idea of the deck is you clone the best of what each opponent has to offer while having a mild control over the board.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• A different experience in every game
• Versatile
• Thrives against creature heavy strategies
• Core of the deck is fairly cheap

Cons:

• Few ways to interact with artifacts and enchantments
• Counter spells are limited to make room for copy effects
• Very dependent on what your opponents play

The Game Plan

The deck is a parasite to the other decks at the table. The early turns of the game you just chill, maybe respond to a few things here and there. After your opponents have some valuable spells on board, the fun begins. The majority of threat you come across can be solved in one of three options: copy, kill, and/or steal. You let your opponents do their own things-- then you mimic them and often set some people back in the process.

Card Choices

Instants: The counter magic mono-blue is known for has been replaced in this deck for removal and bounce effects. The only counter spell we've kept is Desertion to steal stuff. We're here to mimic our opponents-- so counter magic seems counter-productive (no pun intended) when we're slowing down what's fueling us. After we clone a creature we can kill the original through cards like Pongify and Reality Shift. If someone tries to kill our clones we have bounce and flicker effects such as Ghostly Flicker for evasion. These bounce effects will also allow our shapeshifters to copy something different when they re-enter the battlefield. We also have bounce effects to protect us such as AEtherize and Cyclonic Rift.

Artifacts and Enchantments: The deck runs several cards such as Clone Legion and Memnarch that are bombs-- but they require you to sink a decent amount of mana into them. Several mana rocks help us ramp into these spells as well as mana doublers. Since this is a mono-colored deck we benefit more from cards like Caged Sun. We can also use Vedalken Shackles efficiently because we're running mono-blue. We also have Mimic Vat which keeps graveyard based strategies under control. Leyline of Anticipation allows us to flash in clones which is always fun; and lastly Mind's Dilation allows us to start playing everyone else's decks.

Creatures:There's not much to say here because the majority of the creatures are Clone cards. The deck runs a few non-shapeshifters for utility effects. We get additional card draw out of Mulldrifter and Consecrated Sphinx. Deadeye Navigator provides us additional blink effects and Phyrexian Ingester provides more removal. Then you have Empress Galina and Memnarch to steal things for your cause.

Sorceries: Our sorceries mainly consist or copy and steal effects. The main ones being Bribery, Acquire, Rite of Replication. We also have some card draw with Blue Sun's Zenith and Ponder.

Lands: We want to keep the majority of our lands as basic islands for cards like Gauntlet of Power and Vedalken Shackles. We have room for some utlity lands though. Academy Ruins is one of the few ways we can interact with our gravyard. We even have lands that have clone effects: Vesuva, Thespian's Stage, and Mirrorpool.
