Did a 5 round PPTQ, felt like i had a better shot at ending 4-1, but i had a close game that resulted in a match loss. Not sure if i could have taken another line of play but i will be looking back at my matches.
Rnd 1 i faced Suicide Zoo and won 2-0. Game 1 was interesting, i kept a hand with 2 paths, 2 leons, 2 quarters and a plains. It got me there, drew a thalia and locked them out of the game. Game 2 they flooded out and it didnt help that i had 2 quellers. I dont have much to side in for the match up outside of blessed alliance, its pretty since it goes around Apostle's Blessing.
Rnd 2 I faced Dredge and lost 2-1. This is the match that maybe i could have taken a different line of play to take a match win. Game 1 not knowing what i was facing i kept a slower hand and lost, game 2 i won off the back of a rest in peace which is usually how this deck wins. Game 3 regrinded out very hard, it was a complicated boardstate and life totals. Not sure if i should have played around a dredged Conflagrate, but it was tricky. I will post up vids soon on youtube discussing the play.
Rnd 3 I faced Flayer Jund and won 2-1. This was your typical grindy jund match up, taxes decks that can interact grind out with jund all the time. Game 1 i took, they didnt see any bolts in this game or the last game. Bolt and cheaper removal would is what helped them take game 2. Game 3 i had a very strong tempo play against there Grim Flayer, i drew 2 Reflector Mage which blanks there Collective Brutality and then drew into Selfless Spirit blanking there Anger of the Gods. A lot of things happened in my favor to win this match
Rnd 4 I faced Naya Burn and won 2-0. This was a close 2 games, but the creatures selection in my deck makes it very hard for burn to freely cast spells. SpellQueller, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Mausoleum Wanderer were very tough for them to play around Game 1 and 2. In game 2 i had a turn 2 Kor Firewalker that allowed me to play through a Eidolon of the Great Revel.
Rnd 5 I face affinity and lost 2-0. I normally have a rough match against affinity but i have won it before. They had a very strong start in game 1, i did grind them out that game but they took it. Game 2 i kept a good hand, but didnt expect them to be on the discard plan and they hit my Kataki, War's Wage with a Thoughtseize either way they took it.
I felt i could have won my dredge in the second round, i know i will do better with this deck the more i play it. i feel very very confident with this build. I plan on playing this on MTGO and paper for a while.
