Kaladesh Update —Oct. 13, 2016

Going forth, I will be doing an update like this for each set that comes out. What does that entail exactly? The most notable will be clearing up all of the old comments so we can keep discussion in line with the current update.

This doesn't mean that the deck won't change a few cards in between sets, as that is still a possibility the more games I can get in with the deck. It's mainly just for comment clearing, and to give you insight on the specific changes that a new set brings to the deck.

So, after a long wait, without further ado, I bring to you the Kaladesh Update to Daretti!

I think with the new gearhulk, that is 4 new possible cards for Daretti so far!

VexenX: Yup. Gearhulk makes #4 for new additions. Once the whole set is spoiled I plan on revamping the deck.

Got a lot more than 4 Inventions to get, however. But they're too beautiful to not pick up.

That Metalwork Colossus though...!

VexenX: If only it had Trample or some other relevant ability. As it stands, it's just a beater than you might be able to cast early in your curve. Definitely leaves a lot to be desired.

As a fellow Daretti player I'm curious to know your thoughts on the new set so far and what's viable and not. I think the Combustible Gearhulk is a must, and Madcap Experiment sounds good, Inventor's Fair is also a must I feel, I'm also thinking maybe Ghirapur Orrery?

Also maybe Chandra, Torch of Defiance?

I agree with you... If only it had some kind of evasion...

DrkNinja: Combustible Gearhulk and Inventor's Fair fit in here perfectly so they will make it into the list for sure. Madcap Experiment and Aetherworks Marvel will need a bit more testing to see if they will make the cut.

I don't like Ghirapur Orrery simply because it also helps everyone else out, and I'm not about to do that.

Hate to say it but Chandra, Torch of Defiance doesn't belong in here. I can elaborate further if you'd like.

VexenX: If it had Trample I would give it a little more thought. It being essentially vanilla makes me dislike it a lot.

I'd be curious to hear why you feel Chandra, Torch of Defiance doesn't make the cut. At first glance it appears to have everything Red is looking for Card Draw, Ramp, and Spot Removal against low toughness creatures/commanders.

maybe add the actuall daretti card to the description for reference? Literally nowhere on this page... the commander is an alter with no text. I had forgotten his starting loyalty and had to go off site to find it. kind of silly for a primer, lol.

anyways, great read. love your customized pimpage at the end, haha

Just so you know, you never wrote primer for Geier Reach Sanitarium :)

SVHowdy: I think it fits better into a control-style deck. Her exile is risky cuz if we don't play the cards, we lose them. Adding a couple extra mana shouldn't change much, as we have a ton of rocks so we should never be short on mana, and a lot of our bigger spells we can pitch and recur (save for the planeswalkes). I'd rather have mass creature removal over spot removal. Her ultimate doesn't really do much for us either cuz mass removal is better. Chandra, Flamecaller is so much better in here. The plus ability is so-so, but the Wheel effect and mass removal is good to have in here.

Dreno33: I don't know why you had to go offsite. You can just click the picture and it will take you to the actual card, or just search for it at the top of the page. :)

SnowCoveredPlainswalker: Thanks for pointing that out! I'll be sure to change that when I update with my changes for KLD.

You make a valid point. The exile effect on the new Chandra is somewhat limiting. Out of curiosity, what two "budget friendly" lands would you be running in the Bazaar of Baghdad and Mishra's Workshop slots if you didn't already have them? Also any thoughts on the viability of the new Poorman's Solemn Simulacrum - Filigree Familiar?

SVHowdy: Geier Reach Sanitarium is a good budget replacement for Bazaar of Baghdad and as far as Mishra's Workshop goes, any Sol Land will do, i.e., Temple of the False God, Shrine of the Forsaken Gods, Crystal Vein, etc.

And I'm really not a fan of Filigree Familiar. Solemn Simulacrum is far superior.

+1 for the Combo part - I am a sucker for seeing this :D

what are your thoughts on the rest of kaladesh? Fateful Showdown seems OK, but more like a budget replacement option for wheel of fortune. Cathartic Reunion is basically a better Tormenting Voice, could it be good? Incendiary Sabotage is again just a budget replacement for say, Anger of the Gods if you wanted that, plus it lets you sac an artifact.

I know you already said Combustible Gearhulk and Inventor's Fair are great.

But also what are your thoughts on Foundry Inspector or Sequestered Stash?

RazortoothMtg: They're all good cards in their own rights. I believe I have my Kaladesh updates ready. However, I'm going to do a bit more testing just to be sure. I will have a new update ready once KLD is officially released.

I noticed that your not running Homeward Path. In the primer, you do mention your worried about Bribery, so it may be fairly useful.

September 30, 2016 5:06 p.m.

Guerte says... #18

RazortoothMtg: That is a fairly good point. I will have to find an alter for it, or hopefully a foil one day, and find a slot for it.

KLD update will either be out later tonight or sometime tomorrow!

In my testing, Panharmonicon + Mirrorworks is insane

thundranos: Personally, I feel like I don't run enough things to make it trigger enough to justify running it.
