Theme

A beautiful fight on our hands

This build utilizes combat tricks and the Prowess mechanic to pull off splashy and smashy wins.

The Serpent Otter Smash

This idea came to me when I saw the printing of Elusive Otter and I really happen to like it's adaptability; you get to drop a reliable body early and reinforce your board presence later on. All of this with Prowess stapled to it.

Previously I was familiar with Scale Up and it's applicability when used in Infect decks. I'm adapting that type of combat trick alongside something very similar called Serpentine Ambush.

The core mechanic of the deck is something that can come onto the field turn 1, perform a tremendous feat on turn 2, and really sink the inevitable on turn 3.

Construction

Draw

• Demand Answers provides a chosen discard mechanic to facilitate Dead cards, or i.e. put a Blazing Rootwalla onto the field. It's a grabbing synergy that can be capitalized on well.

• Manamorphose is pivotal to our play because of the free mana back in colors we need, alongside a draw to replace itself in hand.

• Honorable Mention goes to Preordain because it's recently (2023) been unbanned in Modern.

Counter

• The mainboard choice for counterspell is Stubborn Denial because it works well for its pace. Early game counterspell that eats additional resource, late game guarantee the counterspell for one mana.

• Our sideboard option is Force of Negation because it's simply the most affective choice.

Removal

I didn't really detail any mainboard removal due to the fact that Fury was banned (2023). I'm thinking that Anger of the Gods is an idea, but in reality I probably need something more spot removal.

• Subtlety exists, and does its job well right alongside its other Evoke Elemental brethren.
