Sideboard

Golgari

Hapatra Prime

Infinite combo - Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons + Devoted Druid + Quillspike

Included in the text below is a complete Primer for the deck.

The idea of this deck is to control the battlefield through negative one counters and win with a few different combos that are fast paced and hit hard. The Strengths are control, which comes about through removal, tokens, and counters. The weaknesses are there are no flying creatures in the deck, which can be an issue, but luckily your Sideboard can be utilized to take care of the enemy creatures. Other weaknesses are the combo setup is subject to disruption by removal. To counter this, there are several cards in the deck that provide regeneration, Hexproof, and return from graveyard effects.

Win conditions

  • Slow damage through smaller creatures while controlling the opponent with creature removal and negative counters

  • stealing an opponents creatures and maximizing mid-game damage with Necroskitter and removal spells

  • creating a Quillspike and Devoted Druid combo, infinitely cycling counters, mana, and a creature buff. Protect Quillspike or Devoted Druid with Vines of Vastwood.

  • Use Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and any negative counter creators or the infinite comb to create an army of deathtouch creatures. This is the main idea of the deck, but the combo can be hard to build. That is why there is multiple ways to win.

Special Utility

1x Black Sun's Zenith

This card is the board effect that could mean Victory against certain decks. Most notably, token decks.

(Create mass -1/-1 counters)

2x Golgari Charm

This card offers multiple utility, most notably Regeneration. It also provides control against Enchantments. Cards like Solemnity can single handedly stop this deck from functioning, so it is important to keep these in the sideboard.

Budget options

  • Exchange Verdant Catacombs out for cards like City of Brass or Temple of Malady. Lands are the most expensive part of this deck, but since it is a two color deck it can be played at a moderately efficient level without the fetch lands.

  • substitute Devoted Druid for two Blowfly Infestations and a Decimator Beetle. You'll lose two total creatures this way, but the deck still performs well. Channeler Initiate is another option, this card has similar utility to Devoted Druid but does not allow for infinite combos.

  • Two good budget counter generators that are Trigon of Corruptions or Scars. This still gives you extra negative counter generators but will inevitably slow down the performance of the deck compared to the other options.

  • Search for damaged or moderately played cards. Sometimes people forget they can get a huge discount on their decks by looking for different printings or worn cards. Sometimes you can save up to 75% of the card's cost by shopping this way. Foreign languages are also an option as they are still legal for use.
