At the beginning of the Khans of Tarkir set, I tried very hard to make an Esper control deck work. Here I am returning to the idea to see what happens. I chose Taigam's Scheming because it seems to be favorable to effectively scry 5 turn two if I'm not dropping a Nyx-Fleece Ram or a second Thoughtseize/Despise. Additionally, the ability to throw unwanted junk into my yard only makes a Dig Through Time happen faster, and since I'm relying on it to be my only draw spell, the sooner its played, the better. Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is beyond effective right now while the format is still a little slow, and its hard to say no to Elspeth, Sun's Champion for the mid game that control starts to shine in. If it wasn't for her, I would have stuck with a UB control build, but white has too much to offer from its best planeswalker, a little life gain, and of course other control staples. So, to my great surprise and satisfaction, the deck preformed and went 3-0. One game against an Abzan walkers/mid-range actually went 1-1-1 however i won the die roll at the end to seal it up for the win. The other two opponents i faced were a Bw aggro deck and a rug walkers with Genesis Hydra, Hornet Queen, Goblin Rabblemaster and Kiora, the Crashing Wave and i was able to win first and third games for both match ups. However every game i played i was on the edge of my seat, almost always a turn or two away from death, and I'm sure thats how playing an unrepresented color combination is going to be during the current standard. Had a lot of fun, so i may run for another week or two before i want to relax a bit and revert back to my Jeskai tempo for some easy peasy face-smashing good times. Thanks for the input everyone that helped again. TEAM ESPER!
