magicblog's Disintegrate Deck Wins

This deck tore up a MTGO Modern Daily Event last year, and I loved the list from the first glance. A big, fat Red deck with powerful threats and removal.

A strength of this deck is how good it's draws are lategame, Figure of Destiny and Kargan Dragonlord are as good early as they are late, and either can win a game by itself. This is also the best Koth of the Hammer deck I've ever seen, making full use of all three modes. Getting a Seething Song out of him is pretty handy for max leveling your guys, and throwing a massive Disintegrate to the noggin.

Compared to the initial list, I'm missing; Arid Mesa, Scalding Tarn, Grim Lavamancer, and Molten Rain. The first two are purely for monetary reasons, and I'd be running Grim if I had them. He's not as exciting as a 1/1. I could see playing some still, but not 4.

I didn't really like Molten Rain main. It's never going to be horrible, but sometimes I'd rather be adding pressure to the board. Boros Reckoner has been printed since this decks inception, and I feel he fills the slot nicely. An aggro nightmare, blocker for Koth, and combo finisher. This deck was running Skred before, but it's super sweet now! Blasphemous Act in the board, that's a bingo!

Molten Rain is shifted to the board, along with Sowing Salt and Blood Moon for the LD package. With Blasphemous Act in the board too, I felt I would need Arc Trails less. Lightning Bolt and Skred go a long way in terms of creature removal anyway.

Skitter of Lizards is my weak replacement for Grim. It scales nicely with our available mana, and haste is decent. It's possible we want Reckless Waif   , as we can pass turns leveling our guys and not cast spells. I'm currently testing both.

Play fewer colours and 25 land, get screwed less often. Gimme a thumbs up and drop a comment in the box.

I had a really hard time beating combo today. I got Banefire'd for 26, Valakut'd for 24, and Pestermite'd for 40,000... It didn't help that I didn't know how to beat Twin at the time. Eggs is a dubious matchup. The Scapeshift deck sidedboarded into twin, my hate was wrong in games 2 & 3. Mono Red just doesn't have the tools to deal with combo out of the board. Maybe there's some artifacts that would be good. Damping Matrix?

Disintegrate wasn't doing anything for me. I'm trying a Grim Lavamancer and 2 Magus of the Scroll in it's place. Seems good on paper. I'd happily play 4 Grim if I had the fetchlands. I'd like to try out some Thundermaw Hellkite sometime.

Koth is the boss. He only gets better with the new legend rule.
