Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor

Legendary Creature — Human Warlock

Deathtouch

Whenever a Curse is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, return it to the battlefield attached to you at the beginning of the next end step.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may attach a Curse attached to you to one of your opponents. If you do, draw two cards.

Neotrup on If I give control of …

Changing control of a curse with something like Donate will not change who it's attached to, only who controls it. With most curses, control doesn't really matter (some like Curse of Misfortunes or Curse of Leeches  Flip do care who controls them). In order to change what an aura is attached to, the spell would need to state that like Aura Graft does, however the only thing I can find to do that would be Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist which requires you to still control the curse, and is not available within Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor's color identity.

I'm building a Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor deck and I see that cards like Harmless Offering and Donate are usually paired with this commander. With her first ability and attaching the curse to myself, I'm looking for more ways to give others the curses other than multiple upkeeps. What I don't want is to change control of a curse to an opponent and then they turn it around and curse me. If that is the case, could I get an explanation on why such cards would be used in curse decks?

There isn't a rhino-specific commander, but what traits do rhinos have? Bulky bodies, a lot of trample and trample-ish evasion, and some stall with cards like Stonehorn Dignitary and Rhox Meditant.

I would say look for a subtheme and choose a commander based on that. Dragonlord Dromoka and Karametra, God of Harvests are good utility options for protection and ramp, respectively. If you're pumping the Rhinos, Sovereign Okinec Ahau pushes that into overdrive.

I got a lot of these decks in need of commanders. Please send over suggestions for

Enchantments: Citadel of Pain + Manabarbs + Personal Sanctuary sort of thing. I know Go-Shintai of Life's Origin exists, but I'm not interested in adding and/or to this one.

Curses and curse themed Auras: Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor + Eriette of the Charmed Apple. Again, I'm not interested in adding .

Reanimator

"Bleeder" attrition: Value over time. Awakening Zone, Suture Priest, Kambal, Consul of Allocation, that sort of thing.

What's the mana value of this thread? I'm about to Reanimate it. I'd like to see more four-color stuff. Unlife mentioned this earlier, but I'd like to expand on the thought.

Four-color cards are especially hard to design and make meaningful, per Mark Rosewater. I'm willing to grant that. Right now, though, I'm trying to line out a Curse deck that uses Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor and Eriette of the Charmed Apple. Breya, Etherium Shaper, has absolutely no synergy, and the best partner options, in my opinion, are just kind of generically useful.

(I know Go-Shintai of Life's Origin is an option, but I don't see having a deep role in this deck, and it feels a little too "five-color good stuff" for me. It's off-theme and is offering stuff I'm not sure this deck concept wants or needs.)

There could be a graveyard commander, or a damage over time commander. Maybe I'm just being demanding, but I feel like outside of the two Atraxas and 's wealth of options (so two color sets out of five), there's just not any worthwhile choices for brewing four-color decks with cards that work well together but happen to not overlap in color identity.

plakjekaas on Banned card in Commander?

It's not actually in a precon, right? Isn't it just a set/ Collector booster only card like Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor? Those are printed with the commander set symbol showing they're not in the main set, and with the LotR set specifically; won't be added to the modern format.

I'd say it's a flavor decision to add the card, and do it like this to keep it out of modern, a reprint doesn't change the banlist so that should sort itself out.

marco-piatti on Bad gifts commanders

Hello everyone, I want your opinion on EDH decks based on commanders that are focused on giving "bad gifts" to your opponents. I think the most rapresentative of this category are (and maybe the only ones? I don't know for sure, wouldn't like to be missing someone): Blim, Comedic Genius, Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor and, of course, Zedruu the Greathearted.

I own a Blim deck and i must say that building around him was really complex because it's pretty clear you can't go easy on gifts since are the only weapon of the deck basically but, at the same time, once you start spreading your fantastic gifts, your opponents will start targeting you like crazy.

Since you can't restart the board every other turn (probably you could, but i don't think i could afford loosing my commander so often and there aren't enough asymmetrical boardwipes) and the deck can't be 50% removal (then again, technically it could be but the point of the deck is trying to win according to a specific strategy and not to just survive) other kind of precautions have to be made.

The first one that came into my mind are pillowfort cards like Crawlspace and Marchesa's Decree. They look good on paper, but after you have given an opponent an end stage Demonic Pact or "simply" an Aggressive Mining they are more then willingly to be paying 1 life for each attacking creature (and yes, sometimes the numerical restriction of Crawlspace isn't a factor either when an opponent can swing with huge creatures).

Another "solution" is using token generators like Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs since they give us the resource to block some creatures.

The last strategy to survive that came to my mind is filling the deck with "goad effects": this way our opponents' creatures can stay alive and are forced to attack the other players embracing the group slug theme i actually had in mind when building the deck.

Long story short, the deck has to be a delicate balance of all these strategies to be funcioning as it should and, at the same time, letting us survive till the endgame.

This is all in theory. In the actual games what's your experience when piloting/facing theese kind of decks? And what seem to be the most efficient tacticts?

Example: I am playing Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor and one of my opponents dies on their upkeep to my Curse of Thirst. Lyndes first ability triggers moving all curses on that player to my graveyard and those curses are attached to me at the beginning of the next end step. Did the player who just left the game have an end step, or will those curses come back attached to me at the beginning of the next player’s end step?

pedroedmarcos on Lynde and accursed witch

Hey there,

Just to make sure, if Infectious Curse is on the field and I sacrifice it somehow, Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor would trigger and try to bring back the curse. Synce Accursed Witch  Flip is the front side, would Lynde actually reanimate the Witch making it return to the field as a creature on her frontside?
