I didn't like the original version of the deck so I rebuilt it.

The deck is a strong deck right now in the meta. Having colorless creatures that can be bothersome to deal with is also a huge bonus. One downfall is the mana, it can be rough and not match up at all with your hand. I am slowly trying to figure out how to correct it.

The sideboard has been very strong for me in the meta i am currently in, which is dense with creature and agro decks. I have made a few sideboard and main deck changes. I am cutting a 3rd Fulminator Mage from my sideboard and I move Ratchet Bomb to the main. I am not 100% where i want the Ratchet Bomb. i moved 2 Thoughtseize to the sideboard, i feel that i have more than enough hand disruption. I added a Pack Rat because i felt this could help me in certain situations where i cant really cast cards, which has happened. In the main i also swapped out a basic swamp for a Marsh Flats.

UPDATE #2

WowzerBowzer, 8 years ago

I replaced many Amonkhet cards for Hour of Devasation cards based on feedback.

Replacing Hekma Sentinels for Vile Manifestations was done because we can have a strong attacker and also play creatures on the same turn. Being cyclable is also a big deal which I felt really hurt Shadowstorm Vizier and the sentinels because you couldn't cycle them.

I've added Hollow Ones as fodder for removal and as blockers on tempo which also rummage for cards in a way. It is also cyclable.

Abandoned Sarcophagus was also added to aid us in consistently playing creatures in the late game and because it has great synergy with New Perspectives.

I never felt myself casting Hieroglyphic Illumination, so it was removed.

Without Weakness was also added to act as a counter to removal (which we needed counterspells to do anyways) and it is a neat combat trick with cycling.

I'm seeing how the deck performs without Key to the City and merely including more creatures, more Archfiend of Ifnir and Without Weakness.

Cards I am considering: - Key to the City - Countervailing Winds - Imaginary Threats - Moaning Wall to sideboard against aggro matchups

I NEVER want to pay 7 mana to bestow Hypnotic Siren so I'll be taking it out to test Merfolk Spy.

FNM 1-3 (June 30)

dakotastic, 8 years ago

Taken from my Reddit post. I have an updated list on my profile, I'll update this one soon with what I changed (added shocks and made the manabase cleaner, as well as taking some of the 1-ofs out and replacing them with better spells) Primer from reddit: This deck came together in the thirty minutes before FNM started, but sadly the store did not have an Iona, Shield of Emeria so I was forced to go with Inkwell Leviathan instead. Round 1: Merfolk I kept a decent hand with some removal. Wasn't sure what I was playing against, but turn 1 island, vial, go kinda told me. I picked off some of his lords and landed a Gifts on turn 4 for Unburial Rites and Inkwell Leviathan. He kept pressuring me but I got two swings in with Inkwell, putting him to 6. He played two lords and swung for lethal when I had one Path in hand...not enough unfortunately. One more turn would've won it. Game 2 I sideboarded in Anger of the Gods and managed to wipe his board once or twice before being overwhelmed by fish. 0-1 Round 2: Infect I managed to bolt his Glistener, Path his Ichorclaw, Helix another Glistener and killed him with Dragonlord Ojutai. Game 2 I sideboarded in Blessed Alliance and Negate. I kept removing his creatures but he eventually stuck a Glistener Elf. The game went so long I hard cast a Leviathan. He ended up swinging with a Glistener Elf when I had 8 poison and he buffed it a bunch. I negated a buff spell and blocked with Leviathan, he ended up dealing 10 to the Leviathan and none to me. I won with Dragonlord Ojutai again. 1-1 Round 3: Abzan Midrange I kept a decent hand that was maaaaybe a little land heavy, I had 4 lands. I bolted a bird, Pathed a Tarmo and ended up drawing seven or eight lands over the next seven or eight turns and never saw another nonland spell. Ended up with 6 lands on the table and four in my hand and a bunch in the graveyard from Liliana +1s. Game 2 Sideboarded in Blessed Alliance for his big Tarmos. Ended up being a mistake as he also ran Lingering Souls. This game, I kept a decent three land hand. No blue mana, but pretty much every other land in my deck made blue mana so I figured I was safe. I bolted and Pathed a few times and he stuck a Liliana and two Tarmos. I had a Supreme Verdict in hand and needed to draw a blue source. I didn't draw a land in 5 turns which included a Serum Visions. 1-2 Round 4: Counters Company Turns out, all the removal in the world is super good against a deck that relies on creatures. A couple bolts, Paths, and Wraths and a Nahiri carried me to the win by swinging for 15 with Worldspine Wurm. I was even a turn away from ulting Ajani. Game 2 Sideboarded in Angers. Kept removing his creatures but couldn't stick a threat and lost to Anafenza the Foremost. Game 3 SUPER close, had him with no creatures but Collected Company with Leak mana up into Eternal Witness into next turn Collected Company again got him all the pieces he needed to get infinite life off Kitchen Finks. I have no answers to infinite life so I conceded. 1-3 Wrap Up All in all, my deck performed decently. The manabase needs work but the store was out of Flooded Strands so I did the best I could. Iona would've helped. I'm considering running a few Faithless Looting or similar effects to help rid my hand of unwanted Unburial Rites or lands. Ajani Vengent overperformed, that card is fantastic. Moving forward, Helix will be upped to a few more copies and I'm considering upping Electrolyze as well. I am also considering running Baral or some other kind of two mana ramp to get a turn 3 gifts, turn 4 reanimation. Speeding the deck up a turn would be great. Maybe Mind Stone so I can still blank removal and cast planeswalkers off it. Anyway I am looking forward to more FNMs and improving the deck!

Added stuff. Better!

Added Gideon of the Trials and Simian Spirit Guide. Tweaked sideboard. Gideon works so well in this deck, I love it! Might even make him a 4x.

Deck Changes

Darkshadow327, 8 years ago

I've taken all your suggestions from the past while and swapped out what I felt needed to be swapped. All your help has really helped this deck become more refined. In addition to your help as I come across cards I make changes where I feel they are needed. Some examples of this is swapping Liliana's Elite for The Scarab God and Festering Mummy for Rooftop Storm.

Special thanks goes out to user:shadow12721 for suggesting some great cards and really helping the deck. Thanks for al the help everyone!

Card Change Update 1

FadingLight, 8 years ago

Removing Angelic Overseer for Archangel Avacyn  Flip. It requires my opponent to remove the immediate threat, or worry about dealing with a 4/4 Flying Vigilance or a 6/5 Flyer.

14% More Cycling!

Qumps, 8 years ago

14 cards being switched out when Hour Of Devastation releases. I'll list those card changes when I get the physical copies.

Upgrades / Changes

RedArchon, 8 years ago

Using the deck, it works slowly as I expected, but has trouble closing the game. There are two things to consider here: <>How do I get enough damage in to close a game? <>The early plays available to the deck are low because of the high quantity of steal spells. Should this be addressed so the deck can play more powerfully early? I intend to try and add haste to get creatures into the fray more often, but maybe 2-3 effects, since the stealing effects often grant haste. Earlier plays may not be necessary, but it's something that should be looked at if nothing gets done until turn 5-6. The deck is going through a partial redesign to try and address some of these issues. List to come in the future.

2nd Update week before HOU Pre-release.

tru13, 8 years ago

7-4-2017 Changes:

Decided that Vizier of the Menagerie needed to be in the deck but only needed to be in at 2 for how useful it is in the deck as a 4 drop. I Added 1 additional Nature's Way to make it one of my Green version's of fatal push in the deck for killing opposing creatures and especially against flyers. I added Watchers of the Dead x2 to the SB and 1 additional Vizier of the Menagerie, removing Overwhelming Splendor from the deck all together which I didn't ever seeing play. I added the Appeal / Authority x3 to the mainboard after it was added to the database for Tappedout.net. Its a must-use card in the deck as it gives support to my creatures and taps my opponents' creatures. I'll continue to update after release of the HOU set and the first FNM to see what changes need to be made to the deck. So far, I like what I'm seeing.
