FNM 5-2
sk00kes, 11 years ago
Late report, but went 2-1 in a 3 rounder, then for the evening 4 rounder went 3-1.
Lost to a Red Devotion deck, first round second game, was getting attacked by Mistcutter Hydra, attacked with Nightveil Spectre? hit on his second Hydra. With one green mana left played it with Master Biomancer it hit the board as a nice 2/2 blocker. Would win with next swing, but he topdecked a Burning-Tree Emissary to play in front of Fanatic of Mogis for exactee's.
Can't remember much more about the rest of the matches other than i won haha.
Second round lost to a Golgari aggro deck. Didn't draw good, and he hit his curve. Pretty straight forward losses.
Final round match was a nice back and forth victory against another Golgari deck more mid-rangey. All games went fairly long, but my tempo plays and patience into developing a good board for eventual card advantage won out.

Deck Changes -- 11/6/13
dendr1te, 11 years ago
Additions -- Haunting Wind, Sheoldred, Whispering One
Very excited to add Haunting Wind. It may only ding opponents for the a point on occasion or it may punish people trying to go infinite with sac-based artifact shenanigans. Added Sheoldred because she was on my desk from a Mimeoplasm tear down and I need a creature to fill in for Psychosis Crawler.
Cuts -- Lord of the Void, Psychosis Crawler
Lord of the Void gets cut for the same reason Spirit of the Night was cut previously. I don't attach often enough with this deck to get value from the card. One less demon in the deck is a bummer. Psychosis Crawler was cut because I needed it for another deck.

Righteous Bravery

Swapped 2 Righteous Blow s for 2 Brave the Elements as I think it might be more versatile this way

Removed 1x Experiment One and added 1x Voracious Wurm.. I also added a Scavenging Ooze to the side board..

new cards are out, so i put some in
Triforce-Finder, 11 years ago
Shot the budget tag into the sun, so I can run 4x Temple of Abandon and 4x Temple of Triumph. Removed 4x Gruul Guildgate and 4x Boros Guildgate instead.
I also got rid of Overblaze. It's cost is simply too high to cast it and then have mana left for splicing and copying. It's usually faster and cheaper to use a Kodama's Might spliced with another one and Blessed Breath, and copy that a few times.

first standard go-round

-2 titans strength for +2 martial glory (I like the scry with titans strength but martial glory activates more heroics and can completely change a combat) -1 spear of heliod -1 anger of the gods for +2 chain to the rocks (the spear is legendary and anger is pretty much only good when facing green/white while chain almost always has a use)

Needs some enchantment/permanent removal. Needs some kind of card draw too, often end up with empty hand due to very low spell costs.
UW Heroic 1.2

Did some speculation about the creature's that I have, and I cam to the conclusion that I need a T1 creature consistently. There were plenty of one-drops to consider. For now, I am thinking Judge's Familiar suits the needs I have. Despite the fact it cannot reliably counter, it can in-fact counter. This helps shutdown any spot removal I might deal with. It isn't a T1 Favored Hoplite, but it will get the job done. Judge's Familiar does have evasion in the form of Flying and will help push damage through. Initial considerations were of course Dryad Militant (not as relevant with Snapcaster Mage gone), and the popular Soldier of the Pantheon. Soldier of the Pantheon looked like it would be good until I thought about the fact that Gift of Orzhova wouldn't be compatible with it.
Do the rewards outweigh the risk? I am concerned about having dead cards. Is Soldier of the Pantheon a good fit?

Swapping out less useful instants/sorceries
clovermite, 11 years ago
Deck is doing really well, but often during the first half of the game I will have instants or sorceries in my hand that I can't really use (counters or attack flying) or I'll use all my mana to put out a creature, so I can't use a counter or "prevent all damage" when being attacked. I'm going to swap out some of these for some one drops with deathtouch. This is also good, because I'm often stuck with 3 or 4 land for a little while before getting a second boost of land. Took out: 2x Time to Feed, 2x Shredding Winds, Voyage's End, Triton Tactics, Curse of the Swine Put in: Fog, Deadly Recluse, Sedge Scorpion, Sporemound, Frost Breath, Sensory Deprivation Clone

Added two Xenagos, the Reveler and this deck runs so much smoother now. His +1 is badass.
Myronn, 11 years ago
Realized the combo didn't start working until opponent has a morph creature in play, so replaced: -1 Brine Elemental -1 Echo Tracer -1 Backslide -1 Swerve with +4x Bazaar Trader (also tutorable by Muddle the Mixture)

Have playtested against a variety of decks, and so far have done pretty well. Gone 3-3 against a gruul aggro with it's main wincon being unblockable + wild beastmaster. Whenever he got wild beastmaster up to 5+ power and 2 or more beasts, I was usually done for, but other games I was able to destroy him before he could even get a third creature out. Also played against a Golgari scavenge deck, again went 3-3. Whenever he got a good start with a some removal and corpsejack menace I was usually done for, but otherwise I could get 2-3 hits on him and that was that. Taking comment and suggestions and am open to further advice :)
EDIT - November 6th, 2013: After a bit of thought, I've decided to replace Manaweft Sliver with Precinct Captain, will report back with findings. Also going to test out Heliod, God of the Sun in manaweft's place, along with Mending Touch in place of Gods Willing. Will report back soon.
EDIT - November 11th, 2013: Playtested both Precinct Captain and Heliod, God of the Sun and I can confirm that heliod really helps this deck. It ups the price a decent amount, but is still $25 which is still an amazing price for a deck this great. Mending Touch doesn't really fit as well with this deck, and so I've decided to hold on to Gods Willing. It doesn't fare as nicely as I had hoped against control, as I went 1-3 against esper control and had a hard time with his removal and counters, but every subsequent aggro deck I faced lost to this deck. Any recommendations for going up against control would be welcome.

Added more creatures and removed Fluxcharger. It was too much mana for something that becomes very vulnerable.
Vanxius, 11 years ago
Added in Mystical Tutor to search for Genesis Wave or spell that I need for the present board state.
Final Cuts on Merfolk Deck

More pretty cards...
Lisarrrr, 11 years ago
Gift of Orzhova is pretty, so I've changed the deck a bit to include it. Also, Fencing Ace in to replace Frontline Medic (who I may sideboard..?). A few other tweaks and amendments to card quantities.
Oooh, and a few more planeswalkers found their way in too...

Did some major play testing with this deck. It seems to have a strong amount of control without arousing group hate. It tends to fight with a judo like effect using the opponents spells and creatures against them. My meta has a Karador deck so graveyard hate is at a major premium in this deck relative to normal metas. I toss so many things into the graveyard that commanders that recur are super happy campers. So, removing the graveyard is the only way to cut them off.
Sizing issues

The main focus is to play epic experiment and blow your wad on your opponents, you can also use Chandra to achieve this goal, the creatures I chose are there for the shrine to mana ramp, also as a win condition.
Capable of turn 1 win

Or, if you really want to be nitpicky, your turn 5, opponent's turn 0
