Argeaux Pyromancer / Deck Doctor
Hey, so I took your advice and changed my deck up a bit. I updated my list if you want to look at it and give me any better ideas for side board (kozilek's return and Linvala were filler cards that I could use but I haven't really gone into a match up that allows me to utilize them all that much) I went 3-1 (I lost to by far the most complicated deck I have ever seen, emerge and a whole lot of revive and other things.... the guy basically said he won't be running the deck anymore due to having to explain EVERYTHING he was doing). I'm really happy where the deck is right now and next week (when I have a solid standard deck I like to try and find a really wonky/fun deck and build that) I will be running the Poison Arrow deck (from Strictly better MTG on youtube) Thanks again for the advice and may the drafts ever be in your favor.

Thanks again on Dogs. And for having my back in general. Same back atcha!
I know you're like, "Meh" on Modern, plus this is probably kind of braggy. But here's the kind of anecdotal write-up I like doing.
February 17, 2017 6:16 p.m.
OK, I see what you mean. I just don't really have time to do "anecdote-style" write-ups on casual matches. Or rather, I prefer to spend that time playing another match than on writing one up. :-)
I really like doing those kind of write-ups though for actual tournament play. As we've discussed though, this season you'll probably only see them on Serious Infection. Spoiler alert: The deck and I ROCKED our first-ever Modern tournament yesterday. We went 4-1 (incl a bye) to place #2 of ~30 people. Woot!
February 17, 2017 1:06 p.m.
I just haven't had enough games yet with the Boat deck to justify a write-up. Hopefully by the end of the weekend ...

No worries at all, and while I think my process on determining a good deck is a little more nuanced, I wouldn't disagree with you!
Looking at it from the inside (and therefore a very biased) perspective, I kind of send decks through a funnel ...
Wall of text about how I test Show
I filter those based on goldfishing, and then playtesting in T/O (because it's free) against whatever kind of gauntlet I can pull together. Sometimes I'll make these decks public on T/O, but I'll normally feature them only if I'm looking for some serious advice from the T/O community and I've checked the "needs help" button.
For the decks that look promising (based mostly on how fun they are to play, as I'm only ~10% Spike), I'll buy cards on MTGO (WAY cheaper than paper cards) and play against real people. I don't know if you do MTGO, but it's awesome. There's a Just for Fun room, where folks can (and do) run pretty much anything. And then if the deck's any good you kind of "graduate" to the Tournament Practice room. Both of those are free to play (well, after buying the cards). These are the decks I put in my profile on T/O and will feature if I think someone else might be interested. I track the deck changes and performance of these decks really closely, and will sometimes include data on the match-ups in T/O. But this isn't really competitive play (it feels much more like a pick-up game with a friend), so I don't do match reports.
The next filter is buying the deck irl and playing in FNM or Sunday Standard (and soon, Thursday Modern) tournaments at my LGS. I will also play the deck in a Friendly League on MTGO. These are both really big steps. Not so much for the nominal entry fees, but because they go down on my permanent planeswalker points record.
And someday I hope for one more filter level, which is playing irl at a competiive level above FNM or in a Competitive League on MTGO. :-)
And yeah, #1 on T/O doesn't mean much except for a bunch of folks happened to vote for a deck that week or so. I think my original Zada-Silverfur and your Boss lists are hilarious proof of that! :-D

Hey, just want to thank you for posting the advice on my Jeskai Help! Deck. I was wondering if you could take a look at this deck and see if it would be a good direction to take my deck. I am going to try and play test this deck when I get the time to see if I will like it. It looks pretty solid.
I couldn't find a message option so I thought writing on your wall was ok lol.

Nice to hear your Game Day wasn't all Mardu, all the time!
I'm gonna miss Game Day today, but it's due to everything else I have going this weekend rather than dissatisfaction with Standard (I'm definitely not interested in spending Tier-1 money this season, but I'd sleeve up some Wolves or your Zada +1/+1 counters list, just for the fun of it).
Btw, you may want to check out Craig Wescoe's Dogs in Boats ... I think it's what I'll probably play if I do any standard this season at all. It's TOTALLY fun to play, and I have almost all the pieces already, so I could finish it up for like $12.
February 11, 2017 12:29 p.m.
Awesome! That exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much! When I find the time I will get it all together.(having a new baby and 2 other kids leaves little to no time in the day lol)
February 2, 2017 7:44 p.m.
I'm really hoping the Pros can help people find some other options ...

I would love to play on cockatrice! Problem is I have not been able to find out where to download it. And syncing the times is an issue. But I would be happy to try
February 2, 2017 10:57 a.m.
I like it a lot! I actually really like the Cobbled Wings. It looks really fun as well. We need to test our minotaur decks against each other :). I didn't even notice you had my servin' servos as one of your interesting decks, I am honored! Thank you

Why no tournaments? I've had a bunch of conflicting schedule items, but the real reason is I just haven't found a deck I want to play this season. I wanted a better deck (better than my KLD Pummeler deck anyways), and had set aside some money to make it happen. But none of the top-tier Standard decks (so far anyways) interest me, and they make for a VERY tough rogue deck brewing environment. So I started dropping that money into Infect.
Why no Crackdown Control? If I sleeve up a Standard deck after all, it probably won't be that one. I just don't think it's strong enough, compared to a more "Pro" UR Control deck.
February 2, 2017 7:46 a.m.
You bet, on the decks ... I figure if I'm going to build 'em anyways for testing, I might as well share them out. It's cool to see other folks using them though!
The BBQ sounds great, despire the boring end. I think I may have whined a little that my EDH playgroup has all moved away, and I have yet to be able to
armtwist bribe find a new group ... it's been OK b/c I have more time (and $) now for Standard and Modern (soon), but I sometimes miss it ...
Good luck (and skill) in the new Standard!

The place I play WNM and FNM at plays music.
Sometimes 80s songs, sometimes lyrical metal.
Every now and then 90s songs, which is my jam.
February 22, 2017 1:26 p.m.
I've tested it and you're right, in this deck it is very strong.
Thanks for the suggestion.

It's not a great idea to expect your Opponent to look up what each and every one of your cards does because IT WASTES TIME. You can end up with a loss or a tie instead of a win.
If you have so many foreign cards that a judge must be called each time to explain them, the same thing will happen.
I was playing in Japan and I had to have a judge with me for all my games because I couldn't read any of the cards. Not all shops have the staff to do this.
It's unrealistic to expect every Magic player to know what every single Magic card does. Some aren't used that often, so it's tricky to remember them.
At the end of the day Magic is a game of skill, not memory.
My rule of thumb is to only use foreign cards in FNM if they are current staples, or save them for use in Commander where you have time for people to look them up. I always have an English copy of the Oracle text with me for any foreign cards I use.
Just because you CAN do something according to the rules doesn't mean you SHOULD do something.

Believe it or not a lot of people who don't have English as their first language play Magic.
Those people often play with others who use English cards.
Everyone needs to be able to see that their cards have similar names and do similar things.
If you think that Wizards could afford to overlook their Non-English speaking markets then you obviously haven't travelled to many countries like Japan and European countries, where the market for Magic is YUGE.

When I have friends over to my place for Magic I play music softly on my iPhone.
Depending on who I have over it is usually a musical soundtrack or some vintage rock.
I often play music when I'm play testing on my own at home.
How about you? What tunes do you listen to?

How to link your deck by using its slug: Mono White Boats & Tools

The bulk of building is actually playtesting.
You can use the playtester on this site to practice playing decks against each other.
Open two tabs with two different decks and go back and forth between them, playing each of their turns.
February 21, 2017 7:12 p.m.
Might I suggest 2x Crumbling Vestige?
It allows for one mana fix, similar to Aether Hub.
Then you can use it for colourless.
February 21, 2017 7:10 p.m.
I told you what I thought you should add earlier in this topic.
I don't mind giving you a bit of help but I can't keep building decks for you.
Like all of us here, that is something you'll have to learn.
I've already spent a LOT of time building two decks for you.
I can take a look at your decks and give you some suggestions, but you'll have to do the bulk of the work yourself.
February 21, 2017 6:59 p.m.
I don't like the limits on Stubborn Denial.
I'll have a play around with Metallic Rebuke to see what I think of it. I usually cast Clash of Wills on Turn 2 or 3 to make my Opponent lose tempo. Not sure if this will always be ready to cast then.
February 21, 2017 6:56 p.m.
TheRedeemed I think you might have missed this, from the "Mechanics" part of my Description:
"If timed right Scatter to the Winds can throw three +1/+1 Counters on a Darksteel Citadel that has been Ensouled, making an Indestructible 8/8."
February 21, 2017 11:44 a.m.
I've got most of my pre-release decks that worked well on here.
They are just all set to private.

I got my lover some of his favourite chocolate, a Pokmon T shirt, and some nice smelling body wash.

The OP may not have a Walmart in her/his country and has already said "I don't have a credit card to pay online".
As suggested, hit up your LGS = Local Games Shop/Store
February 21, 2017 11:10 a.m.
Oh good lord.
They can't sell enough cards through Standard so now they are going to get us to buy cards this way.
February 21, 2017 9:09 a.m.
I would have slightly more copies of Ice Over as it can slow your Opponent down in the early game.
Leave in the Dust is better in the late game, so you don't want too many copies ending up in your opening hand.
February 21, 2017 7:23 a.m.
Walk to that place. Ask people for some Lands.
Use the word "suggest" instead of "propose".
It's better English in this case (I'm helping Pokced with English).
February 21, 2017 7:16 a.m.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a rift in the Gatewatch in future.
