Mono-Blue Thopter Deck
(based on Monothopters)

Philosophy

The heart of this deck is Whirler Rogue with an ability you can use immediately, and multiple times depending on how many Artifacts you have on the field. Even better, you can have more than one copy on the field at one time, and you can use EQUIPMENT to activate its ability.

So now I present to you ... Monothopters!!

Concept

Utilise cards that support Thopters.

Mechanics

Land

An important thing for this deck is to get moving as fast as possible and keep early momentum up. It is also important for this deck not to lack mana in the early game.

24 lands is just right for that.

It's important to remember that if Darksteel Citadel is ensouled with Ensoul Artifact it is unlikely to be tapped for mana.

You can speed this deck up Post-Sideboard by taking some lands out and replacing them with Counter spells.

NOTE: I am trialling 23 Lands.

I'm planning to play this deck against my friend in a couple of weeks time.

When I was playtesting tonight I discovered something I hadn't seen before.

So, his deck is Manifest-heavy and he has Tomb of the Spirit Dragon, which prompted me to check whether Manifest Creatures are colourless.

My research showed me that Morph and Manifest Creatures are all colourless.

In one of my playtests I went to cast Gudul Lurker as a Morph. "That's cool," I thought, "I now know that is colourless".

I examined the board to see if there was anything else I could do with the one mana I had open.

I had Ghostfire Blade on the field.

"It's a shame I have no colourless Creatures to-- hang on a second. That Morph I just played IS COLOURLESS!"

Boom! Equipped the Morph with Ghostfire Blade.

Next turn, Megamorphed the Gudul Lurker.

4/4 that can't be blocked.

Thank you, and goodnight.

From my notes:

You can pay to equip Gudul Lurker with Ghostfire Blade, while it is a colourless Morph. When you then pay its Megamorph cost, it will be a 4/4 unblockable Creature.

Interesting note: I once said to a player that he couldn't search for "unblockable" Creatures on Gatherer, as that wasn't actually an ability.

He didn't believe me. Dickhead.

Try it for yourself and it will return no results.

That's because, at this point (27 August 2019), "can't be blocked" is what is written on cards.

Players like me have used the shorthand "unblockable", but that's not in the official rules.

Enjoy your "unblockable" 4/4 Gudul Lurkers!
