THE BEST POLYMORPH DECK IN MODERN

Modern BUG (Sultai) Combo Competitive

skirk3

Sideboard

The deck idea is to get emrakul out as early as turn three by polymorphing/staffing dryad arbor (which can be fetched out via fetch lands) or bitterblossom tokens or man lands. The rest of the deck is dedicated to making sure you can actually resolve the combo. I opted for a more proactive approach instead of running counter magic which just slows down the combo. I run 8 hand hate cards which allow you to rip out kill spells or counter magic which will stop the combo, or simply ripping out any threats you do not want. In addition, defense grids and chalices severely interrupt your opponents ability to interact with you. Conjurer's bauble was a interesting touch i added because it allows you to shuffle the dryad arbor back into the deck and just fetch it back up whenever with a fetch land. The deck is super redundant with 8 combo cards, 15 fetch lands, and 16 ways to keep the combo safe, 90% of the time you will have the win in your opening hand with disruption. this is why i run no draw spells... its just not necessary. Also chalice on 1 completely shuts down a lot of decks in modern like infect, bogles and burn... etc. Also, it is worth noting that turn 3 emrakul is only attainable if you have a turn one utopia sprawl. The deck IS rather expensive (but anything that says "budget" is not even worth attempting to play competitively), but I have piloted it to many successes. I will be taking it to another modern GP next month.

The decks favorable match ups are: Burn, bogels, control variants, tron. After SB it is VERY good against infect, burn, affinity, any mono colored deck and a lot of aggressive decks.

The decks bad match ups are Jund, twin and living end. twin and living end can be beaten if you play smart and sideboard well... jund is just always bad.

SB: the sideboard is geared to both answer troublesome decks and keep the combo intact. most of the time people side in spellskite, bloodmoon, and grafdiggers cage which is why i have 3 abrupt decay and a natures claim just to deal with them. i run 3 field wipes (which do not hurt me at all) to deal with fast aggressive decks. furthermore, you have the option to run alternate polymorph targets like iona (which completely shuts out mono color decks like burn) and elesh norn (which shuts down decks like affinity, g/w creature decks and infect). i have also found that pithing needle is a must because it shuts down fulminator mages, spellskite, grim lavamancer, ghost quarter.... etc which can all be troublesome.

other sideboard options i have considered were through the breach, bring to light, another bitterblossom, and maybe more artifact/enchantment destruction... but ultimately i am happy with where the deck is at.
